In search of Larry O'Brien: 2015 NBA Playoffs

FWIW, I didn't see the horse and gun, so I initially thought it was a rape joke.

Same here (memories of Bobby Knight). Finding out that we're getting mad about emojis makes me rather annoyed.

No way that the emojis got the guy in trouble. It was all about the text, which has a very rapist feel to it, whether it was the intention or not. They should have followed the old rule of thumb when it comes to controversial content: If you have doubts, don't do it. Now if he went with, "It's time to put these old colts out to stud," then I think we're looking at a harmless tweet. But this one had a really bad underdone, just like that Belvedere vodka ad a few years back.

"And then I remember to relax, and stop trying to hold on to it, and then it flows through me like rain and I can't feel anything but gratitude for every single moment of my stupid little life... You have no idea what I'm talking about, I'm sure. But don't worry... you will someday."

So now the tweet was rapey? Is that what we're saying now? Oy vey.

The phrase used in the tweet is commonly associated with rape, for what it's worth.

If you ask anyone, especially a female, about that phrase or any variation of it, they will likely tell you it's unsettling and associated with bad things. And if 7 out of 10 people tell you that, it's probably worth listening to.

Here is the issue we have in today's society. We don't look at the ENTIRE story, we just pick and chose what we want to focus on. The first part of the tweet is a horse head and a gun. "Close your eyes, it will all be over soon" follows it. Its obvious in reference to putting a horse out of its misery... not rape. We routinely do this in the media, in personal lives, in public... we focus on JUST what helps our side of the story.

The tweet was sent out at 7:44PM, which is either just before the game starts, or during that game, so the "over soon" portion was clearly in reference to the next 2-3 hours of game time, as opposed to shorter amount of time that intercourse takes.

Again, people need to take things like this in context... we have got to stop picking and choosing what we focus on.

Jim Norton was right. We really are a nation (or even a species) full of pathetic, sobbing, passive-aggressive pansies that spend amazing amounts of energy just looking for things to become outraged over.

There's an irony in people being outraged by other people's outrage, real or imagined. It needs a clever name and I'm annoyed I haven't figured it out.

If the first bolded part is so obvious, then there wouldn't be any controversy. The fact the controversy even exists proves that the phrase has a clear meaning to a different group of people.

The second bolded part doesn't make any sense. How long intercourse takes has nothing to do with the justification of the joke. We're dealing more with the words people say when things transpire, not how long any of those things take.

And it's ironic I'm reading a book right now about why situations matter, because you guys advocating it's an overreaction are negating the fact it's from an official team account. If it's just one of you guys making that joke on Twitter, then it's a reflection of you as a person. But the Rockets are trying to appeal to everyone in the city, from all different backgrounds and when it's your name and reputation attached, you half to have more foresight.

Again, I love un-PC humor. I've been on 4chan and r/imgoingtohell, so I'm not so overly sensitive intellectual. But even I got to admit that for a corporate twitter account, the choices of words were bad.

"And then I remember to relax, and stop trying to hold on to it, and then it flows through me like rain and I can't feel anything but gratitude for every single moment of my stupid little life... You have no idea what I'm talking about, I'm sure. But don't worry... you will someday."

Re-cursing? It combines infinite recursion with outraged profanity.

Look, next time go with the stupid Lone Ranger line because nobody gets offended at that.

It's so awful. The Cavs still have a shot in the east, but I don't know how they can beat any of the west teams without Love.

Eff you Kelly Olynyk.

This is setting up to be a pretty intreaguing playoffs. I expected it to just be Lebron vs the Spurs, but this kinda leaves the east wide open now. I could see Chicago, Atlanta, or even Washington give the Cavs quite the run for their money now.

San Antonio is probably the favorite in the west still just because of who they are, but a series vs the Rockets won't exactly be a cakewalk for them. Even if they get past the Rockets, they'll probably have to face a pretty well rested Warriors team.

This is the first time in awhile where the NBA playoffs doesn't feel completely boring and predictable. It's gonna be a fun stretch these next few weeks.

Or it'll still be Spurs vs Lebron, because NBA.

Even with Love, CLE is a terribly bad defensive team. While 10th since mid-January, they finished the season 20th overall.

To quote Marc Stein, "Each of last 13 NBA champions and 23 of 25 have ranked in the top 10 in defensive efficiency. Clips are tied for 17th ... and Cavs are 20th"

I think it's pretty ridiculous that he was completely s**tcanned over that, of all things. I get some possible reprimanding or even a demotion, but to completely fire someone over something as truly innocent as that? Crazy.

And honestly, if you're working for a company who gives you as much leeway as they seemed to, yet they'll drop your ass immediately over something like that, it's probably a company you wouldn't want to work for anyway.

Good on him being professional about it and owning it, though.

Cavs also has the best record in the NBA over the last 30 games, with wins over multiple playoff teams, with better overall records than their own. You can throw out stats all you want. The last half of the season, they looked like the team everyone thought they would be. And it appeared Kevin Love was starting to find his groove.

Just like Doug Gottlieb said... curses aren't real... except in Cleveland.
