FiddySicks
That's actually what I was thinking. Despite the Bay Area having teams named the Seals in multiple sports, the city is definitely better known for sea lions. Also, Seattle Seals has a pretty nice ring to it. I was was kind of hoping for Thunderbirds, though. I've always thought their identity was too good to just be stuck with in WHL. 2 Quote On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.) DustDevil61
I'm disappointed that Metropolitans is not among them, but given the name of the baseball team in New York I'm not entirely surprised. Kraken is interesting, while I like Evergreens, Emeralds, Rainiers, Seals, Totems, and Whales (but I have no clue how they avoid looking like Vancouver with an orca involved). The_Admiral
Evergreens, Rainiers, and Seals are my short list. If they were called the Sockeyes I'd never be able to refrain from calling them the Suckass, and if I can't be mature enough to handle that, think of what real idiots would do! 1 Quote ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

omnivore
The Avalanche were almost called the Colorado Xtreme. We'll see what they end up with. The whole not using Mets thing doesn't surprise me, but they'd better raise a banner for them anyway. 1 Quote NCFA-FCS/CBB: Minnesota A&M | RANZBA (OOTP): Auckland Warriors | USA: Front Range United | IFA: Toverit Helsinki | FOBL: Kentucky Juggernaut Minnesota A&M 2012 National Champions 2013 National Finalist, 2014 National Semi-finals 2012, 2013, 2014 Big 4 Conference Champions

I hope they have a banner for the Metropolitans there when the arena opens, but there's no need to "raise" a banner for something that happened over 100 years ago. I don't know which sense of the word you were referring to.

I just associate Seals with a failed franchise. Long ago, yes, but still. Sea Lions just sounds better IMO. Thunderbirds would be great, but would an NHL franchise absolutely mean the demise of the WHL team, or would we have a Chicago Wolves, Edmonton Oil Kings, etc. type of situation? Not likely in Seattle's case since the Thunderbirds play in Kent (which is 20 Miles south of Downtown Seattle) and from what I've heard have developed a solid following since moving there from the city. It would probably be a concern if they still played at Key Arena. They also have the Everett Silvertips 30 miles to the north of downtown too. Marcos Flamengo
I wish that a Seattle NHL team would be nicknamed Totems.
cmm
The Islanders will be returning to the Coliseum. Twelve games there next season. Then if those go well, they will play at least half of their games in Uniondale until the new place is ready. https://www.newsday.com/sports/hockey/islanders/islanders-nassau-coliseum-12-games-1.16380150
The_Admiral
I know the Islanders had been floating the possibility of roughly one game a month at Nassau since they moved to Brooklyn, but still, this happened fast, huh. I would guess they'll eventually spend a whole season back home before Belmont is ready. But yeah, this is great, gtfo, Brooklyn. Sport
For a minute yesterday I prematurely gave the NHL credit for actually making a savvy decision when I thought the NHL All-Star game being played during Sunday afternoon was to avoid directly competing against the Pro Bowl, incorrectly assuming the Pro Bowl would be on in primetime. Then I checked my cable guide and saw it was playing exactly during the Pro Bowl and nodded because of course it's up against the Pro Bowl. Up against the Pro Bowl and they booked Kid Rock. It's really like they didn't want anybody to watch. To their credit it was far more watchable than the Pro Bowl.
The_Admiral
I was at a dinner party and a few of us watched the third period or final or whatever with half an eye before dinner. I dunno, wasn't that impressed. At least it wasn't the Pro Bowl. 1 Quote ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
chcarlson23
The games were actually fun to watch, and the players were pretty much goofing around, and showing off their skill. Kucherov's no-move move goal was fantastic, as well as the double backspin pass goal were great. Fleury and Rinne actually made some great saves. And the "drama" around the challenged goal was pretty funny. 1 Quote "And those who know Your Name put their trust in You, for You, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You." tigerslionspistonshabs
I'd love to see those Whalers unis on the ice again- and not just half-assed for a warm-up skate. Could you imagine Hurricanes wearing Whalers v Bruins both wearing 1991-92 unis at Foxboro for the Winter Classic? *salivates* I'll take green v white or black v white. Both would look INCREDIBLE.
