not surprised it's Rudy "I touched Mics when the world shut down" Gobert.  He doesn't seem to the brightest tool in the shed.

Gobert threw the first swing and immediately backpedaled halfway to the locker room -- which came as no surprise.

I wonder what people will say about the NBA if the Western Conference Finals is going to be Lakers vs. Warriors?

The Lakers are one of the league's best teams after dumping Westbrook, so it wouldn't be too surprising.

Kind of looks like Utah fleeced the Timberwolves on that trade...

Anyway, am I the only one here peeved over Miami, a division winner, being in the freaking Play-In Round? They won their division, at least give them a top six seed as to make sure this doesn't happen again.

Hell, make the division winners the top three seeds again. If that weak-ass division winner is as much of a fraud as people say they were, the sixth seeded team would make short work of them.

Warriors Kings in the first round and I am :censored:ing HYPED. This is exactly what this region needs to inject a little bit of excitement into what is a very strong potential rivalry. Also, I think drawing the Warriors is exactly what the Kings needed, too. I think they match up with the Warriors better than most Kings fans would think (Kings fans seem mostly terrified to play Golden State), and if the Kings ever really want to get a foothold in the region, they’re going to have to do it by getting by the Warriors. What a better opportunity for them than to try and do it in the playoffs?

I think people believe the Warriors are just going to walk away with this one, but I don’t think so. I think they can absolutely beat them, and in the very least the Kings are going to be a very annoying opponent for the Warriors.

Golden State has playoff experience; Sacramento does not. I think that alone should make them a favorite... regular season be damned.

The Suns were going to have it tough either way to start the playoffs and now they have the Clippers. If you told me that this would be a first round matchup before the season started, I would believe you.

The worst trades in NFL and NBA history both occurred in Minnesota.

What's the current bar in the NBA? Charlotte dumping Kobe for Divac?

Didn't Kobe refuse to play for them, though?

Oh absolutely. 100%. First playoff appearance in almost two decades and they have to face the Warriors. It may be the toughest matchup they could’ve drawn. But if they find a way to pull it off? Absolutely HUGE for that team and fanbase. Kings fans have been dying to see their team in the playoffs again, and if they find a way to get around one of the greatest playoff juggernauts ever, who just so happen to be their in area rivals? It’ll probably be the biggest win that franchise has ever had. I think they can do it, too.

I’m much more of a Warriors fan than a Kings fan despite living for so many years in Sacramento. In fact, due to the amount of time I spent working with major members of their ownership group and front office staff, I actually don’t particularly like the Kings. But I also recognize how much that fanbase and city needs a big win like that. And now they have the opportunity to do that. :censored:, they DESERVE it for all of the :censored: that city has gone through in the last 20 years. I’m very excited for them.

Nah, that wasn't the case.

Charlotte had arranged to trade that pick to LA for Divac before the pick was made. Essentially, LA picked Kobe.

Assuming the Lakers win their play in game, I can totally see both them and the Warriors knocking off the Grizzlies & Kings to set up a second round match.

They couldn't meet until the conference finals.

But Kobe did say he was going to be pretty selective about where he would wind up, didn't he?

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

If you can find an article, go ahead. But I don't recall Kobe doing any that leading up.

Jerry West had a hard-on for Kobe and jumped at the chance to get him.

I would also say either the Utah trade that got Magic in LA, or the Nets-Celtics trade is worse then the Kobe Divac one. Both Utah and Brooklyn got absolutely nothing, at least Charlotte got some 50 win seasons where Vlade was one of their best players. Regardless as a biased Wolves fan, I do say it's a bit too early to judge the Gobert trade but, it isn't looking good, though I doubt it'll turn into the nonstop disaster the Nets trade was. Knock on wood.

I have borderline personality disorder, if my posts ever come off as aggressive or word vomit-y to you, please let me know.

Yep.  People on Twitter though will accuse the NBA of being rigged or scripted if it's a Warriors vs. Lakers Western Conference Finals, just like how they accused the NFL of being rigged after the Chiefs won the Super Bowl.

Wrong. If the Warriors are a 6 seed and the Lakers are 7 and they both win their first round series they would meet in the second round. NBA doesn't re-seed.

That would actually be a fun series.

Has to be Celtics-Nets. The Celtics basically outsourced their rebuild and only have Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown because of that trade. The Nets even before making that deal were a sloppy mishmash of former fringe all-stars that was going nowhere. Neither Pierce or KG lasted two full seasons in Brooklyn; Pierce left in free agency after one, KG's corpse was sent back to Minnesota partway through year two. The Celtics finished better than the Nets in year two, then only got better while the Nets dropped into the bottom of the conference.

Honestly the trade Phoenix just made for Durant might soon earn a place in this discussion. Durant will be 35 next year and has missed half the season every year since leaving GS, Chris Paul is officially old as :censored:, their other principal players are overrated and not gonna get any better, they handed a potential 26 year old franchise player to Brooklyn, and all of their first rounders in the second half of the 2020s (save 2026) are now tied up. If the Suns win the championship or at least come close enough to justify the gamble, it's fine, but if not...

I recall reading a ton about Kobe since he's from the burbs here, and there was absolutely some "don't draft me" stuff going on.  Specifically with the Nets.  He (or his agent) said he would not play for them no matter what, even though they were 50/50 between him and Kerry Kittles anyway.  I don't know if he specifically said anything about the Lakers, but there was definitely a short list of teams he wouldn't play for.  Funny enough, I would imagine the Sixers would have been on that list, but I can't find evidence of that (though the Sixers one-year idiot GM nearly traded Jerry Stackhouse for a lottery pick so they could draft him along with Iverson, but chose not to pursue it.  That woudl have been a s-show if Bryant wouldn't play here... and I wouldn't have blamed him.)

Here's on article - doesn't say too much, but there's more out there.
