22-23 NBA Season Thread

GREAT series. Kings have a really bright future, and should’ve earned a lot of people’s respect. Warriors are just about the toughest opponent you could possibly get and they kept swinging until the very end. This team has more character in its small toes than the Grizzlies have ever had in their entire being. MAD respect to them for how they played. I can’t wait to see where they go from here.

Now, I think the Warriors should handle the Lakers, but I kinda feel like whoever does is gonna get run over by Denver. We’ll see, I guess!

It was funny when people were like "I want the Grizzlies to lose because they're obnoxious. Therefore, I am instead supporting the Los Angeles Lakers and LeBron James." Glad the Kings made it sporting. Go Warriors

We've seen it enough times. 5 feels like overkill.

Who exactly am I supposed to get behind in these playoffs? James Harden? CP3 and KD?

All the likeable teams are gone

I always find it amusing that people think like this. If you can't enjoy great players battling each other in the playoffs, maybe this isn't the sport for you? There's lots of interesting teams and storylines even when putting aside my own bias as a Lakers fan.

Feel gutted for the Kings. They had a tremendous season, but their inexperience really showed down the stretch. Curry was masterful, Looney was grabbing anything that came off the rim and they as a collective just seemed quite unbothered by anything in that game.

Lakers v. Warriors is going to be a ton of fun. I'm biased obviously, but I do think the Lakers match up pretty well with Golden State. They played each other 3 times after the trade, with the Lakers winning all 3 (although none of the 3 games had both LeBron and Curry playing in the same game). Lakers have a clear advantage in the paint, as Golden State really doesn't have anyone to match up with against AD, offensively and defensively. AD has to be aggressive for the Lakers to win the series. If the Lakers can limit the perimeter scoring/playmaking of Curry, Klay and Wiggins, or at least make it difficult, they have a good chance at winning this.

Denver is still going to the Finals though.

Has this ever happened before? Teams representing all 8 possible seeds making the 2nd round?
I just noticed, and thought it might be significant.

At least since 1984, when the Playoffs expanded to 16 teams, no. This is the first time that's happened.

An 8 seed has beaten a 1 only 5 times before this year: 1994, 1999, 2007, 2011, and 2012. In none of those years did a 7 seed also advance.

No Embiid, Celtics are shooting like 70 percent, the refs are calling it like they’ve got a 9:30 reservation at Neptune Oyster. So naturally we’re tied through 3.

I don't understand this year's Celtics at all.  They won like a billion games but they constantly seem to be playing to the level (or worse) of their opponents.

Hard to say if the Suns are butt or if the Nuggets are just the secret best team in the league, but the Suns have been butt this playoffs.

I thought that an injured Embiid may actually backfire on the Celtics. They've always played him as well as anyone has and have a long history of owning the Sixers in the playoffs every time. A diminished Sixers team gives them license to disengage, as they are wont to do, and that's exactly what happened.

A less cynical view, but one that seemed to have truth to it last night, is that Horford is bizarrely good at containing Embiid (relatively) but, absent that job, kept getting put on Harden last night and got torched many times over.

Mazzulla also never seems to have any ideas when this spiral starts. He’s not inspired much confidence in me.

I mean, Denver is the #1 seed in the West and finally have everyone/most everyone healthy for this playoff run. I don’t think it’s all that much of a surprise that they’re playing this well. It kinda feels like their year.

Now, for someone who is NOT having a good year.

Dillon Brooks Told He Won't Return to Grizzlies 'Under Any Circumstances'

Good riddance. If you insist on going the Draymond route, you’d better be damn sure you can back all of that nonsense up with your play. Draymond is one of the best defenders in the history of the league and is legit the glue that keeps the Warriors together, and even he’s on a razors edge when it comes to people putting up with his antics. You pull that kinda crap and then go out and play the way Dillon Brooks just did? You’ll be lucky to keep a job at Dairy Queen.
