Most top players don't really sign before the Winter Meetings with there being the occasional exception (last year being one, but that was also with the impending lockout looming). The Winter Meetings tend to kick off the official "Falling of the Big Dominoes".

I just hope it's not like when Harper and Machado signed after ST had already started, or even last year when guys like Schwarber and Walking Feces Castellanos signed days before the season (granted, the lockout impacted that a lot.)

UPDATE: a blue-check is reporting that Turner to the Phillies was finalized overnight.  They already have an advanced copy of the team's official photoshop of him, so it must be accurate:

I also noticed that Jeff Passan is simul-posting his Twitter updates on Instagram, which I absolutely hate but I guess makes sense given the chance that Twitter won't exist in a week.

I use Twitter exclusively to follow select verified news outlets, sports writers, get mass-transit updates, and other verified information.  I don't care about anyone that's posting their random thoughts or personal opinions.  Twitter was perfect for what I used it for, and I'm sad that it's gone (though, they did temporarily pull-back the "pay-for-a-blue-check" feature... at the expense of some legit blue-checks losing theirs.  What a disaster.)

Red Sox will probably only try to keep one of Devers or Bogarts. I don't see them breaking the bank on both of them. Personally,I think they should keep Devers.

Then try to replace Bogarts with Correa.

That would be such a Henry-ownership move, too. Replace a fan-favorite with a guy who is as good or worse but pay him exorbitantly more.

Ain't that what they did with Mookie Betts a couple years back? Or was there more to that whole ordeal?

No, I think Mookie just didn't want to stay in Boston long-term, so the Sox moved on. Bloom traded him before even meeting with him, if I remember correctly.

There have been numerous instances (such as lowballing Jon Lester and then signing David Price to a record-breaking contract, but I feel those were not in the same offseason) but the biggest that comes to mind is the dismantling of the team they did after 2004. They let Orlando Cabrera walk...in favor of Edgar Renteria. Granted, I'm sure no one could see the cliff Rent-a-Wreck would fly off of in Boston, but still. Cabrera was a fan favorite whom they let walk to sign an unproven Boston player for more.

Royals decide to move forward on a downtown stadium despite less than 20% of fans approving of such a move.

No deadline yet, but they are moving out of Kauffman. They better take that scoreboard and the fountains with them.

I'm all for teams moving from suburban ballparks in the middle of massive parking lots to urban downtown ballparks. Hopefully the taxpayers don't get too screwed over on this though.

I understand why they’re doing it. It would be cheaper to build a new stadium over renovating (really want to see those studies, though), but it doesn’t mean I have to like it.

I'm just curious where in downtown--or close to--they're looking to build this thing. Knock down some stuff in the West Bottoms, maybe? Perhaps over on the river shore by Ballys? Somewhere up by the stone yard in North KC? (I haven't been through there in a while to know whether that large swath of grass is still open--last I knew they were building yet another luxury apartment building up there much like the Union Berkeley (?) one they just finished not that long ago.) I'm trying to think of where else they'd even find space in or near downtown--but they sure been looking mighty hard at something around there...

Sure looks like there's a lot of options for redevelopment to me...

It would be pretty cool if they built it near the Negro League Baseball Museum. Just saying.

Goes without saying, absolutely visit the NLBM and gaze at the splendor of the history and Geddy Lee’s baseball collection.

My more serious answer? About a mile southeast of The Crossroads, there are a lot of unused properties and a surprising amount of open real estate. Relatively close to the streetcar too.

Regardless, being a Royals fan is much easier now that marijuana is legal here.

It's been on my list for a good while--that and the Jazz Museum I believe right next to it--I just haven't yet had the off time or opportunity to do it. But soon, bro...I promise. I got to go see that!

As for the site you named...I was thinking that area over toward the USPS building further down 18th at I think Indiana might have been another possible option, but wasn't sure. Then again that may be a little further out than what you're talking about.

You know what--if they wanted to blow up that Flying J down there at 435 and Front Street, the Blue Beacon across from it, and plop down a new stadium and parking there, I wouldn't even be mad 😆

I chose the Crossroads because it's on the streetcar line which will go from UMKC to North Kansas City by 2031 and it's right next to downtown proper. Source: Used to pay way too much for some :censored:hole loft surrounded by homeless people there so I know it quite intimately.

I don't think we've ever known for sure Mookie wanted out. As far as we know, the team never offered him a comparable extension to what he ended up signing with LAD. So it was a similar thing -- happy to pay Trevor Story the big bucks, though. (And let's not forget Pablo Sandoval in this history!)

Paul Goldschmidt wins NL MVP

I still can’t believe the loser ass Diamondbacks let him go for scraps. MLB really should move them to Mullet Arena and turn the Chase Field site into a parking lot.

Bryce Harper likely out till at least June depending on how his surgery goes. They don’t know if he’ll need full TJ until they’re in there, but it’s sounding very likely that’s what he’s getting.

if their defense didn’t blow so much I’d say to hold off on surgery and just keep being the DH, but they really need him back in RF to allow the butchers to rotate at DH.

Well turns out Harper did need Tommy John, and is out until at least the All Star break, after which he can be DH again, but might miss another full season in the field.

This is a huge blow - had hopes up that he'd be back around June 1.
