At the very least, assuming the data point is true, it suggests that Vancouver could be a viable expansion market. But the league would have to commit growing by at least 4 more teams, since Seattle is a shoe-in for the next round, assuming there is another round.

I'd put Vancouver before Vegas.

College sports as we know them are just about dead. The lid is off on all the corruption that taints just about every major program and every decision that the schools or the NCAA make is only about money, money, and more money. We'll have three 16+ team super-conferences sooner rather than later, killing much of the regional flair and traditional rivalries that make college sports unique and showing the door to any school that doesn't bring money to the table in the process. Pretty soon the smaller schools are going to have to consider forming their own sanctioning body to keep the true spirit of college sports alive because the NCAA will only get worse in it's excess from here

Is there an ownership group in or with strong ties to Vancouver with enough wealth and a solid plan to operate a franchise there? That's the question I have...

(And alternatively: does Commissioner Silver have any kind of anything against [the idea of a franchise again in] Vancouver that fans/the public should know about—you know, for "basketball reasons"?)

*Disclaimer: I am not an authoritative expert on stuff...I just do a lot of reading and research and keep in close connect with a bunch of people who are authoritative experts on stuff. 😁

Why? Vegas is a hotter new market. Not to mention, Seattle is a given and I don't think they'd put 2 new teams so close together. Vancouver literally adds nothing to the league other than existing.

Big Sean wearing a new Detroit city jersey, so we've got first view of a numbers. Also Pistons signed an ad deal with stockx (green logo on home):

I really, really love this look. I feel like (and hope) that the Pistons use it as part of their core look. It'd be a great statement jersey, especially considering it's not only a nod to the Bad Boys, but it feels like a modern take on their mid-60s jerseys.

In terms of ownership groups who could, I would say the Whitecaps/Canucks group could. But I don't know if they would explore interest.

EDIT: the Canucks group once owned the Grizzlies so maybe nevermind on that end 😅

i agree. i wouldn’t mind seeing the pistons follow the clippers and kings in changing their their wordmarking. might be a little on the nose as more and more teams in the league are using a cursive font now but i think the pistons’ one is different enough

The 1999-2002 Nike team designs were all ahead of there time, even the looks that feel outdated now like the Mavericks and Pistons.

The Pistons only look is still modern and looks good, but it feels outdated because losing does not help a brand look and what we associate it with. The more recent losing streak would overshadow the '04 championship in that look

There are 8 teams in the eastern conference all closer together than Vancouver and Seattle.

The two big 4 teams in Vegas sit bottom 3rd for average ticket cost. The one in Vancouver sits top 3. The one big advantage Vegas has is the Casino buys, but Vancouver has like the 2nd or 3rd most millionaires per capita in North America.

Business wise, I'd also go with Vegas, but not because the city itself would be great at supporting the team, but because it would be a bit of a tourist hub. It would be the same thing as the Raiders, 90% away fans wanting some winter sun.

It's also really irrelevant where the teams go, the NBA's international and TV deals bring in 90% of the revenue. It would be profitable if they put the team in a dumpster.

  • Hotter to who? As it was mentioned before, Vancouver fans are eater up merch. that should matter for something.
  •  Vegas doesn't need a team. It can be a place where the hosts all-star games or nba cup.
  • So close together? 1. It has happened before 2. I think the Clippers/Lakers, Nets/Knicks would say otherwise.

Only 6 city edition games for the Heat thank goodness. Our abysmal record in the Heat Culture jerseys finally made someone rethink that gimmick.

THANK GOODNESS.

Having to watch them play bad basketball in those horrible jerseys last year was torture.

Are you seriously saying that the Seattle-Vancouver area is on par with NY and LA, the two largest sports markets in North America and arguably the world? Sorry, but you just lost the argument right there. Your first point doesn’t even register on the NBA’s list of qualifications for a market and your second point is just you saying “they don’t need a team” has absolutely no substance to the argument you’re trying to make. You really think “Vegas doesn’t need a team” would be a valid enough reason to the NBA as to why Vegas doesn’t need a team?🤦🏻‍♂️

The population density of the east is far greater than that of the Pacific Northwest. The Mariners don’t want a team in Portland because they want the whole market to themselves. I’m sure the Blazers and original Sonics felt the same with the Vancouver before and would probably again. Not to mention, there’s no way they would expand two teams in such one small of area rather than multiples. Doesn’t make any business sense whatsoever. The original Vancouver team was part of a 2-team expansion into Canada at a time when the Blazers and Sonics were already long established. Now would be the geographical equivalent of them expanding to Vancouver and Victoria instead of Toronto back in 1995. It’s an immediate single market over saturation by expansion.

That, to me, is the reason the Lakers changed their look even though the new set is such a clear downgrade. Lesson is change for the sake of change is rarely a good idea.

In terms of the Pistons, I can understand the younger generation not liking that look since the Pistons last had a good season way back in 2008. That's a entire generation that associates nothing but losing and misery with that look. I'm hoping they don't make any major changes to the core look, but they've already done a lot of damage with the new blue sidelines, no painted keys court design and the parade of awful Statement Edition jerseys.
