24-25 NBA changes

The NBA is top 5 in terms of global footprint for sports leagues, it may be the most profitable which teams having operating incomes into the 9 figures, and some of these teams will still sell a jersey ad to a local company that only exists in their state for $2-3m. While yes, the big clubs get WAY more than that (GS peaked at $20m), I still don't think this whole thing was even necessary.

With digital overlays, there were so many other ways they could have sold ad space that would have gotten the same, if not more impressions. $2m is a rounding error for most of these teams with all the money they get from TV contracts.

The two big 4 teams in Vegas sit bottom 3rd for average ticket cost. The one in Vancouver sits top 3. The one big advantage Vegas has is the Casino buys, but Vancouver has like the 2nd or 3rd most millionaires per capita in North America.

Not sure where you came up with those numbers. The Knights have the 2nd highest average ticket price in the league, while Vancouver is in the bottom half.

colors too much like the Wizards

This was also a common comparison when the new look was first unveiled, but I think it misses that the Wizards are predominantly red while the Clippers are predominantly navy. The color distribution makes a difference even if the color scheme is essentially the same.

That being said, I'm not crazy about navy either and would have changed the color scheme more radically. I still think the San Diego colors would have been a perfect starting point, then throw in some black and teal accents (inspired by the unused '90s rebrand) to distinguish it from the Thunder.

Hot take (I think): the ads on the court bother me more than the jersey ads. Don't get me wrong, they both SUCK, but the floor ads are much more present and jarring when watching a game on TV. Between physical and digital, a lot of the time you're seeing 5 ads just on the floor in a single frame.

That raptors classic edition is so nice. One of my favorite jerseys. Wish that purple on the shoulders that extends to the back wasn’t there though. Looked cleaner when the back was all black.

damn i didn't realize that until you mentioned. it's all because of the shoulder cut where the seam is at the scapula instead of the top of the shoulder. defeats the purpose of the design because the whole point was the back being all black like you said.

expectation: Autographed Toronto Raptors Tracy McGrady Fanatics Authentic Purple 1999-00 Mitchell & Ness Hardwood Classics Authentic Jersey with "HOF 17" Inscription

reality:

why must nike continue that ugly shoulder cut? smh

not to mention the wishbone collar is again incorrect and the NOB is supposed to be straight

i give them props for keeping the team name on the back of the shorts at least.

Confirmation of the Raptors' Vinsanity-era Classic Edition uniforms:

It's funny that they waited to announce this when they were already selling these in the team shop last week. Unfortunately it looks like they're only offering the swingman version.

Toronto should have never gotten rid of those. Screw it--reinstate them and never change again. Add a red color-swap alt if need be. Best in their history.

Is there an ownership group in or with strong ties to Vancouver with enough wealth and a solid plan to operate a franchise there? That's the question I have...

Maybe Bell. Rogers bought them out of MLSE, which presumably means all Raptors games moving to Rogers and leaving TSN in need of winter content in BC/Alberta.

I agree. I LOVE the road version of those jerseys. However, the home version always felt lackluster to me.

The purple and red never POPPED like the road version. However, when they ditched the purple and moved to the red/black home jersey ... that was great! However the red jersey had nothing on the previous primary road. I'd love to see a hybrid of the two.

Looking at the Clippers' new dark uniforms at Media Day, I'm not feeling the navy at all. Should've just used the lighter blue instead as the base color. Looks too generically uninspired this way, similar to Nuggets and colors too much like the Wizards'.

from a visual point its grown on me and im actually a big fan now. i think the accents of baby blue with the secondary color red looks really good and pairs really well with the navy.

from a branding standpoint though i agree. and its not really their fault, theres just way too many navy teams in the league. we already got the timberwolves, pelicans, grizzlies, wizards, nuggets, mavericks, and pacers. thats almost a quarter of the league. and then theres the the knicks (and previously warriors) who for some reason have navy statement jerseys. so for all we know this could open the door for teams like the thunder, pistons, or magic to jump in. which is not good.

my solution idea:

-pelicans rebrand (im a big fan of the voodoo colors)

-nuggets rebrand (baby blue and yellow preferably)

-grizzlies to focus more on powder blue

-wizards to focus more on red. (which i know was mentioned that they do. but their logos are all mostly navy and so is their entire court. not to mention all their marketing and promotional work seems to be mostly navy. seemingly they prioritize navy first. even if their icon "away" jerseys are red.)

With the amount teams are wearing their alternates, I wouldn't even tell the Wizards are predominantly a red team anymore. The color distribution is pretty similar between the two, all in all.

The Clippers just didn't have to use navy as a base color regardless of the rest of the league. There was a proper opportunity right there to have the lighter blue as the primary color, along with red, and leave navy for accents. But, it's the profitability of navy that they went along with, I suppose.

There's no ballin' Dino, no Factory Pomo anywhere on the uniform and no pins. It's a good uniform, but I would take the original set over it in a heartbeat.

Their new Statement Edition is technically navy as the base color, but the red stripes on the jerseys and shorts are so gigantic that the color distribution is closer to 50/50 in reality. Their new City Edition is white. And of course, their normal home and road uniforms still favor red over navy. I still say they're more of a red team than a navy team.

I agree. I also think the ballin' Raptor is a far superior primary logo than the clawed ball. Sure it's a little cartoony, but even just clean it up/modernize it. It's a freaking dinosaur playing basketball.

Like to me, to a non-privy person, you would have to point out that it's dino claw marks on the ball. At least to me anyways, it isn't obvious. Always thought it was a weak logo.

Since we're talking about this, let me say that o also really liked the original Raptors set also...it's not often mentioned in such light, but it featured a couple revolutionary elements I don't think have been seen since--namely, the zig-zag pinstripes and the contrast-colored, claw-topped NOB panel, which itself was a pretty clever play on the then-primary logo, as seen below:

toronto_raptors_logo_primary_19961665.pn

(I also never knew whether the upside down T on the shorts was intentional; if it was, pretty dang slick.)

All that said, I can completely see how those original uniforms may have been (and really were) justatadbittoomuch for some. The 2.0 sets cleaned all that up quite nicely and had more "timelessness" to them, which is why they should have never changed (or 86'd the purple, because look at the team now...)

---------------------------------

Also, completely random, but just because I saw it, you too will now see it:

Zach Edey and Yuki Kawamura...the tallest and shortest rooks on the Grizz.
