Return to Classic Logo in Cleveland?

Anyone heard that the Elf is back in Cleveland? Rumor has it that the new GM and those above him are phasing the Brownie back in and getting rid of the 'Dawg logo. Personally, the Elf kicks the the dawg's butt! It takes me back to the days when the Browns were a power in the NFL. The dawg just reminds me of the futility of the modern Browns and their attempt to come up with a marketing zinger.

GO BROWNS!!!

I agree. The dog is an excellent logo and all, but its the fans nickname, not the teams. The elf was associated with the Browns for years, I like it coming back.

Here's a question to all: Why do the Browns use an elf? The St. Louis Browns Baseball team used a very similar elf as well. Is there something I'm missing? Did Cleveland mimic the old' STL Browns? Or does the name Browns have a direct correlation to an elf? I always wondered that an any information would be glorious.

I think the Elf is related to what Europeans call a "Brownie". The Brownies are the helpers of Santa's Elves. Honest. In fact, in England, children hang socks on the wall for the 7 days prior to Christmas in hopes that the Brownies will leave them candy. So......Brownies = Browns. That's the way I learned it.

Trivia: the designer of the new "Dawg" logo is the same designer of the logos and uniforms for the Washington Nationals and the [insert Your Name Here] Angels.

I think the Dawg logo was supposed to be for merchandise only anyway.

The Dawgs is actually the nickname for the 1980's Cleveland defense. The Dwag Pound started because a couple of the players would jump into the stands after a defensive touchdown. The elf is already in use on the team player parkas.

Nope, I've never put together a Cardinals concept (on the computer anyways...on paper yes).

Bucfan-

The way I've always understood it is that Paul Brown (for whom the team is named) chose the original color scheme, perhaps in part because of Bowling Green.

When Modell kicked Paul Brown out of Cleveland, he got picked up by the new organization in Cincinnati, and designed their look as well. Their initial look (with "BENGALS" on the helmet) was very Browns-esque, and orange-and-black isn't that far from orange-and-brown. Also, Paul Brown originally became famous as a high school coach, at Massillon HS, who are nicknamed the tigers and wear orange and black. They now play all of their home games at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium.

I could be completely wrong about this, but it's how I've always understood it, and it seems to make sense.
