Saintsfan
IMO state/region names are fine. Don't suppose the Patriots will be changing there name anytime soon. Actually IMO Florida Marlins sounds better than Miami Marlins. (I have never been a great fan of alliteration in sports names). Although as far as the Marlins are concerned now the Devil Rays are around they don't represent the whole state, so a change to Miami would make sense. 2011/12 WFL Champions
marlinfan
The Marlins have toyed with this Miami idea before - I think it was when Henry was still the owner. For one year their BP hats had M's on them. It was a stylized M with the fish around it, very much like the regular hats they still wear. I couldn't find a picture of it though...I love that hat. I wasn't too keen on the logo itself, but seeing it on a hat makes it look great. The "M" on that hat stands for Marlins not Miami. I thought the same thing to and emailed management about the issue and confirmed it stands for Marlins. IMO the Marlins we undergo a complete overhaul the season the park opens. No doubt an homage to the Minor League Miami Marlins, of which I have a throw back jersey I've been looking for that uni for years.....Can you post a pic? 1997 | 2003
yh
Crazy thought - how about just using the marlin alone as the cap logo?

WSU151
If the Rangers changed to Arlington from Texas, it'd kinda defeat the purpose of the name. I'm pretty sure the name "Texas Rangers" is derived from the actual Texas Rangers (a mounted fighting force in the Texas Revolution and eventually became the law in Texas; They are now joined with the state highway patrol). Exactly. Just ask Chuck Norris Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

random
I beleive the "original" state team was the Minnesota Twins who named their team as such to avoid favoring Minneapolis or St. Paul, and it guess it sounded better than Twin City Twins. The Texas Rangers followd suit for pretty much the same reason (not wanting to pick Dallas or Ft. Worth considering the stadium was between them). Plus you are all right "Texas Rangers" is the name of a branch of the state police that predate texas statehood.lately i think state names have been used to try and extract fans from across a state rather than one city. Remember the "city" is the just the group of people who the team seeks to represent, at least in the classic sense.I have no problem with State or Regional names as long as they dont sound stupid (i.e. Pee Dee Pride in the ECHL)

Korkie
I like the satchel paige ones better. I am a big fan of cursive scripts on baseball jerseys. It looks classy and block lettering just looks boring to me alot of the time.
