yankeeman161
i knew that Jeff would win as i predicted in a previous post because he was the fastest car all during the practice sessions during the week and he tested at the track during the off-season so i knew he was the besthttp://boards.sportslogos.net/index.php?showtopic=17805"I'M SO STOKED, I WON THE DAYTONA 500!"-Jeff Gordon in victory lane (winning the 500 for the third time) (1997 & 1999)so with that my friends, i give my endorsement to the 24 and Jeff Gordon to win this years Nextel Cup Championship beacause i believe in the DRIVE FOR FIVE!!!this is yankeeman161. Cyclopsis Joe
I'll be the meathead, though not as ignorant as I could be about racing...How many races are held in Daytona in the weeks leading up to the 500? Every time I flipped a channel there was some race going on there. I didn't even know it was the 500 going on today, I thought it was just another one of the prelims. To answer your question, a lot.American LeMans drives the Road Course for 24 hours, then there's the American Racing Cars Association (ARCA) race there, then the a bunch of practices, then Cup Qualifying, Then the Gatorade Duel which sets the running order (it's a complicated qualifying procedure), then IROC, Trucks, Busch, and finally Cup. (It's called Speedweeks because of all the activity)Anyway, to answer the question on why everyone hates Gordon..I don't know about the newbies, but, since I've been watching it for the past 17 years (aka: My entire life), I can tell you why I don't. When he started in Winston Cup a long time ago..like..10+ years ago, he won so many races, and a couple championships, within his first 4-5 years. In NASCAR, that was a mortal sin. Most drivers take 10 years of skill and expertise to win a championship. Gordon didn't.Not only that, he was a damn Hoosier from Indiana..Of course now, everynoob loves him, because that is irrelevant now. I don't speak for democrats, democrats don't speak for me. Nick 1733
Well I've liked Gordon since I first started watching racing when I was 14, and that was 7 years ago.So the 'noob' theory isn't always true. MLB, NBA, NFL & NHL Font Packs
ROCHitman
i knew that Jeff would win as i predicted in a previous post because he was the fastest car all during the practice sessions during the At Daytona, practice times mean nothing. Your prediction was right, but to say you could see it coming from browsing over times is silly.A perfect example is Ken Schrader. he posted the 4th fastest time in Happy Hour. Did we even hear his name on Sunday? On the topic of Gordon being hated. Several reasons I can think of.1. He was viewed as a threat to Dale Sr. when he came into Cup.2. Gordon won too soon and too many for some fans.3. He's not your typical driver. More of the clean-cut, pretty boy type.4. He's from Indiana by way of Cali (which he calls home) and that ain't the Dirty South.5 (and the only reason to dislike him IMO) - he married a Winston Cup trophy girl named Brooke.Nascar and Autoracing fan since 1984. Which would be about '98. the year he won his 3rd Championship. The fan hate had already been well formed. That's also about the time the sport became mainstream and and newbies loved him. CaolinaJoe
The money Gordon won for just the race on Sunday is more than Dale Earnhardt ever won during any of his 7 Championship seasons. It's also nearly as much as Richard Petty's Top 5 earning seasons COMBINED.In '95 when Gordon won his first championship he won just over $2 million for the year. The monetary increases in this SPORT over the last decade are astronomical. "It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of thepress. bosox
I was never really a Jeff Gordon fan in itself. I was originally a Terry Labonte fan, and in recent years I've basically become an overall huge Hendrick Motorsports fan, so whether it be Johnson or Busch or Gordon or Vickers or hell, even Nemechek, I'm happy with a win.
