barnesdesign
I think the main thing that bothers me about these uniforms, besides going away from a very nice look (the 2000-2003 unis) that was consistent with their new identity, is that they decided to revert to their old uniforms while not reverting back to their old blue color. For YEARS the cougars were royal blue, and in '99 they switched to the same color as my alma mater, Utah State. The thing that pisses me off is they act like this is such a unique color to them, or they say stuff like "it's the darkest shade of royal blue". I definitely don't think that BYU said to themsleves "man those aggies have a great look and are doing so well in merchandising with the navy blue color...let's take it as our own", but the total lack of recognizing our existence by taking our same colors is what drives me mad. There are really only three DI schools in Utah (U of U, BYU, and Utah State), and now all of a sudden they are talking about "tradition" like the navy blue is theirs? I suppose this is a bigger issue here in Utah than elsewhere, and perhaps this may sound a bit too much like I am playing the inferiority complex card, but man BYU pisses me off!End of rant. barnesdesign.netbarnesdesign.posterous.com/
Magus
they're beyond vanilla boring, these are plain f'n boring. it looks like they took the 49ers montana era jerseys and recolored them with navy. in my opinion they are a rotten pair of uniforms. deucedwo
Is it just me or is that actually a nike swoosh on a "new" traditional looking uniform???
slapshot
Considering Nike is endorsed by BYU, my guess is that yes, that is the Nike swoosh. I'm pretty sure the Nike logo was on the Kentucky and Purdue throwbacks this past season as well. FeenVol
I have to say I like the fact that they went back to what they wore during their hayday...sans the royal blue which would have been a much better color. I understand other's opinion that they are boring, but I for one like simple uniforms and honoring their past. I was not a big fan of their newer versions, but I guess I am one of those boring traditionalists. Big fan of the helmet and bringing back the logo. Personally I think it is a good move on BYU's part. JMO.
rynoz10
I have to agree with Ben. The bigger issue is that the football team is totally moving away from the athletic identity that the university established as a whole a few years ago. Look at Boston College as an example of how to use your visual identity across all of the sports. They have done an excellent job, and BYU was just establishing their new identity. You have to give it more than a few years. Now unless they change the colors and the visual identity across all of their athletics they will have the same confusion the had before they changed. With one stupid move they have destroyed years of work in establishing their new look. This is why football coaches are coaches and not designers. Discrim
taking a cue from Rick Pitino, .Jim McMahon's not walkin through that door...Steve Young...is not comin out of that tunnel...Ty Detmer's not comin out that door. That thing was dated when they were using it, and it's still dated. no, sir, i do not like this. rbripley
I don't mind the colors or the "traditional" look - in fact, I like it much more than what they'd worn the past year or two (or however long they were around!).What gives me pause is the inconsistent striping between the helmet and the jersey and pants. Also, IMHO the blue pants just aren't needed because they provide a misbalanced look. I say, go with the all white road uniform and get em' good and dirty while winning some games... Oh, maybe they should worry about winning games instead of what they're wearing? "Conduct may be founded on the hard rock or the wet marshes." Blue Falcon
The way things are now, you better get used to the fact that schools will change uniforms/logos every few years or so when they fire the entire athletic staff. Five years from now, BYU will unviel a "21st century logo" designed by Nike of course, and then 5 years after that will unveil "traditional" unis.I'm just amazed at how bad Nike uniforms are. Remember the bibs on the BYU uni? I don't know what was worse, the bibs or the Oregon "hi-liter" unis.

Mingjai
I posted a retrospective look at BYU's uniforms on the temporary board--that's not needed here (I actually liked the '96 editions the most). Suffice it to say that after the weekend, I am even more underwelmed by BYU uniforms than I was initially. I'm a third generation BYU alum who enjoys tradition as much as the next guy, but I thought BYU could have done a little more than what would amount to a simple "color replace" in photoshop. BYU did a good thing going with the unified look across the whole athletic dept--to me this represents a step back. I think there are many ways that they could have made a nod to tradition while still keeping the new look and colors.ALSO NOTE: the numbers on the new unis will be screened on and not twilled on.Barnes: I agree that your Ags are getting shafted--at least when BYU incorporated some tan they were somewhat distinguishable from USU, but now we have the same general uniform scheme. chigger3
these would've been a thousand times better if they had used their gold color as a highlight to the stripes and numbers
ColeJ
i don't think they're half bad...i'm not condoning the change, because i don't know what their previous uniforms looked like (not a big fan of the state of utah, or college football, really), but i've seen much worse uniforms.these looks nice, in an understated toronto maple leafs sorta way. HappyBrownie13
for being really plan, those seem really busy to me thanks to the stripes. That set is just ugly, and too Penn State w/ stripes. What a shame that BYU cant put together a good uni set when you're replacing an old Carr, you need more than Les Miles

KCScout76
They have had 3 new sets of uniforms the past 6 years - the return of tradition is an excellent move. The previous sets just didn't look right, these "traditional" unis are excellent.
