Fight songs

I'm not talking colleges because we all know they have one. And I'm not talking about songs already made adapted for teams (e.g. Rock and Roll Part 2, Zombie Nation, etc.) I mean original compositions for the team.

Here is the Seattle Sounders (USL 1st Division) official fight song:

edit: Topic #4000 in this forum. Should have been a better one.

The finest fight song in the NFL. I give you FLY EAGLES FLY.

Fly Eagles Fly

"Start spreading the news... They're leavin' today... Won't get to be a part of it... In old New York..."

2007nleastchamps.png

In order for the Mets' run of 12 losses in 17 games to mean something, the Phillies still had to win 13 of 17.

pantera did the official dallas stars fight song.... saw them at a handful of stars games too... always sitting down in the lower bowl, in their ludwig and belfour jerseys :) good memories.

pantera was also part of the dallas stars championship parade. had their own float, and played the fight song for the whole route.

diehard stars fans :)

i don't have it uploaded anywhere, but it's not hard to find, if you haven't heard it.

it's basically cowboys from hell, only with the lyrics replaced by screaming the words "DALLAS!.... STARS!...." over and over.

probably the hardest official fight song of any pro team :)

I disagree. Fly Eagles Fly is a very good fight song, but the best NFL fight song of all time is Bear Down Chicago Bears.

:P

Closest thing for the St. Louis Cardinals would be on opening day when the Clydesdales go around, and they play the Budweiser Song.

Couldn't find a simple MP3 of bear down, but here's the budweiser song, performed by the Wisconsin Marching Band (Georgia Tech also plays it)

I also like the 3 in one at Illinois, but that's more a college thing so doesn't really count.

Forgot about this one.

Here Come the Hawks

http://boss.streamos.com/wmedia/blackhawks...ia/va001695.asx

Here come the Hawks, the mighty Blackhawks!

Take the attack (yeah!) and we'll back you Blackhawks!

You're flying high now so let's wrap it up!

Let's go you Hawks! Move out! Now all look out!

Here come the Hawks!

Here come the Hawks!

Here come the Hawks!

Here they come, movin', weavin', flyin' high and throwin' spray!

Blades flashin', sticks crashin', trying for the play.

And the Blackhawks take control!

There's a shot! And a goal!

Don't know if this counts, but it seems to be the Red Sox "unofficial" team song:

"Tessie" by the Dropkick Murphys

and if the Red Sox are winning going into the 9th inning they play "Sweet Caroline" by Neil Diamond.

which is kind of mellow compared to "New York, New York" by Old Blue Eyes Sinatra played after every Yankee win. Liza Minnelli's version is played after every Yankee loss. YMCA is played at the end of the 5th inning with the grounds crew, Cotton Eyed Joe is played at the 7th inning stretch. But, Yankee games are the only ones to have God Bless America played at the middle of the 7th Inning with either Kate Smith or Ronan Tynan's version played.

I can see how "New York, New York" is similar to "Sweet Caroline"...both songs were adopted by the teams for use in the games. But "Tessie" is specifically written about the Red Sox.

Is it still necessary to play "God Bless America" during the 7th inning stretch? For most players and pitchers, it stretches the break to about 5 minutes, when the time between innings is supposed to be a minute and a half. I don't buy the homer-ism effect of the song, since all teams played it after 9/11. I don't think the Mets play it anymore. The only time other teams play it is on national holidays.

Every stadium plays "YMCA" and "Cotton Eyed Joe". Those have also both run their courses.

Did Cotton-Eyed Joe even start out with a course?

Back on topic, here is the song for the Ottawa 67's (OHL):

we'll never forget the way you thrilled the nation...with your T for-ma-tion! as others have already said, Bear Down Chicago Bears!

and now...from Bear side to Packer side...

um...a song does exist, but it's been long forgotten. nowadays it's essentially that guitar riff followed by "GO! PACK! GO!" about 3-4 times.

this place here got the lyrics for many an NFL fight song

I believe Hail to the Redskins is 3 years older than Bear Down

Probably a good thing they changed they lyrics too.

In the '30s, the Redskins were very much the Team of the South. There were no Miami Dolphins, no Atlanta Falcons -- other than the Redskins, there were no pro football teams south of the Mason-Dixon Line and east of the Mississippi. Marshall knew regional-minded Southern pro football fans had only the 'Skins to root and he pounced on the angle.

Which helps explain some of the original lyrics of "Hail to the Redskins!" as written by Marshall's wide Corinne Griffith, a retired silent-movie star, a.k.a. the "Orchard Lady of the Screen." You probably remember Corinne from such films as "Syncopating Sue," "Island Wives" and "A Virgin's Sacrifice." Actually, her best-known roles were in "Black Oxen" and "The Divine Lady," for which she was nominated for an Academy Award. But those titles don't sound nearly as funny.

Where today's song cheers fans to "Fight for old D.C.!" the original version's "Fight for old Dixie!" played directly to the fans' Southern identity. And while the Redskins still use a racial slur for their team name, some words in the original fight song didn't do much to deflect accusations of racism. Where the song now says, "Beat 'em, swamp 'em, touchdown! -- Let the points soar!" it once went, "Scalp 'em, swamp 'em -- We will take 'em big score / Read 'em, weep 'em, touchdown! -- We want heap more!" The lyrics were subsequently cleaned up in the '60s, after Marshall's Redskins were, notoriously in 1962, the last pro team to integrate.

The first verse and chorus is played for the 7th inning stretch of every game...

OKAY BLUE JAYS

You've got a diamond

You've got nine men

You've got a hat and a bat

And that's not all

You've got the bleachers

Got 'em from spring 'til fall

You got a dog and a drink

And the umpire's call

Waddaya want?

Let's play ball!

Okay (okay)

Blue Jays (Blue Jays)

Let's (Let's) Play (Play) Ball!

Is that a fly ball

Or is it a seagull

Coming in from the lake

Just to catch the game?

It's the last inning

Our guys are winning

Dave's put down a smoker

A strike

And you've got no doubt

(You're out!)

Waddaya want?

Let's play ball!

Okay (okay)

Blue Jays (Blue Jays)

Let's (Let's) Play (Play) Ball!

It's a beautiful evenin', fans

At the ballpark

Warm summer breezes

Sun's goin' down

And it's all dark

At the ballpark

But that's okay...it's a night game

Waddaya want?

Let's play ball!

Okay (okay)

Blue Jays (Blue Jays)

Let's (Let's) Play (Play) Ball!

Bring on the White Sox

Bring on the BoSox

Bring on the Brewers

The Rangers and the Yankees too

We'll beat the Indians

We'll beat the Tigers

We'll beat the A's so bad it'll make

Billy blue

Waddaya want?

Let's play ball!

Okay (okay)

Blue Jays (Blue Jays)

Let's (Let's) Play (Play) Ball!
