See Red
With this format Miguel Tejada cant defend his title. He had a part in that decision as he suggested that David Ortiz represent the Dominican Republic rather than himself.
HedleyLamarr
This is nother stupid gimick by Selig, Matsui may have been a good choice but hes not an All-Star.The HR derby should alway be the top 4 HR hitters from each league, its bad enough already taht its at Comerica Park where HRs go to die. Choi's not an All-Star either, but he gets to participate.....Personally, I didn't see anything wrong with the old format of determining players, but I didn't like the mano y mano Semi-finals. I say they should go back to the old format, with the top 4 advancing to the next round, and the top 2 in the semis go to the final, and go with a 5-out final round. Each participant should be an All-Star, and unless the player has a good reason not to participate, the top 4 HR-hitters in each league have to participate. This is, after all, an event for the fans, the people that heavily contribute to the players' salaries, and they should be entitled to seeing the top players in the contest. FiddySicks
This is really stupid. I went to last years Home Run Derby and i didnt go to see a guy like Hee Soap Choy or whatever hit dongs. I wanted to see guys like Sosa smash one off the giant All Star sign, and Berkman hit it out in front of the crowd, and Tejada break the HR record. With this new set up none of this is gonna happen. Oh well. Luckily ive got the AAA Home Run Derby tomorrow night instead. On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.) Speaking of which....I hope this is the last year that the All-Star Game "counts". Bud should take a hint from the NBA and the NHL and let the team that had the better regular season record get home-field advantage in the World Series. There's no excuse that a Wild Card team should get the home advantage over the best team in the other league that won their division....

Amen to that...basketball and hockey has it so that the best team is rewarded with home court/ice when it's the finals...football used to do that before the Super Bowl...why can't the MLB do something that simple?Only MLB would have an exhibition game (frankly, that's what the ASG truly is when it comes down to it) determine who gets home field...I'm sure the Rays, Royals, and M's reps REALLY have a stake in seeing the AL get home field again...and I'm sure the reps for the Rockies and Reds are gonna give it their 100% to try and get the NL champ home field Fluffing ponderous... lopernv
Its a home run derby, its not going to ruin your lives and end the world in a big fiery explosion. hormone
Well, I don't like this format. Everyone always jumps on baseball because of it's tradition, but they allow this stuff. It's all about hype and the world ball coming. If I have to root, I'm going to go with either Bay (because I'm a Bucco fan) or Mark because of the US. Seadragon76
Well, it looks like it will be hard to beat Bobby Abreu.24 homers in the 1st Round alone!
Cujo
It seems like almost everytime someone has an amazing round, they end up going cold the next round. McGuire in '99, Giambi in '01 and Sosa in '02 come to mind right away. It'll be interesting to see how Abreu does after hitting 24.

Cujo
Do they test for steroids and corked bats before this event? If so, Jason Bay must have passed the test with flying colors. A record tying ZERO home runs for Canada's Jason Bay.
