Maybe only cardinals fans will care but...

As many of you know, this season is the final season for the current Busch stadium. What you might not know is that they have a countdown clock in leftfield with the number of games that are left at busch. i gotta say the cardinals are most certainly among the best at embracing history and showing gratitude to the fans, community and people who have impacted st.louis. im going to be so incredibly sad when that place comes down...its like my personal mecca. anytime i drive downtown and see those arches peeking between the high rise buildings i just get goosebumps. However i realize that all good things must come to an end and i am excited to see the new Busch stadium next year. With that I'll say GO CARDS!! and lets bring down Busch with a celebration the Cardinal way in late october.

They did a similar countdown to the AAA All Star Game in Sacramento

I could maybe understand the significance of tearing off a countdown number (or why not just throw out the first pitch?) if this was Wrigley or Fenway getting torn down after the season. But this is Busch Stadium, folks. Big deal! <_<

This one quite interesting to me #55 -- 05/29/2005 (WAS) -- Jose Cardenal, former Cardinal

well at least the Cardinals won two world series while they were at Busch. How many have the Cubs won since they moved to Wrigley? :)

I saw, I came, I left.

And so have the Marlins, so maybe they should do a countdown-type celebration when they tear down Joe Robbie Stadium, or whatever the hell they call it now. <_<

For #17, they would be wise to get Cardinals QB Jim Hart to do the honors instead of Mike Matheny. Also, it would be cool if they could include Neil Lomax (another former Cardinals QB) with Tim McCarver and Jim Edmonds for #15...

Busch is regarded as one of the nicest stadiums in all of baseball. The fans of St. Louis wouldn't let it go out any other way. Plus this isn't some big event. You can easily miss it even if you are at the game. The Mascot (Fredbird) just drives the person out, make a 1 paragraph announcement, the game isn't stopped or anything. That inning might take an extra minute break.

At least its going out on a good leg, still standing, not dropping concrete on fans' heads.

Good call on matheney...I just thought one of those games against San Francisco. Same way with the Harry Carey thing.

But will they go by former players' numbers, or will they save No. 1 for the most famous Cardinal of all, San the Man?

Generally they are doing uniform numbers when its possible, at least it seems.

Like I said, guesses only.

Just think if Stan Musial would have been a Yankee in those days, how famous would he be today? He's pretty much one of the most underrated players of all time.

They've announced this weekends...I got one right!

I got Tim McCarver for Game 15 with Jim Edmonds(uniform number) but he'll actually pull it off tomorrow, probably cause FOX will broadcast the game

Joe Buck in honor of his dad...that will happen...I guessed number 4

Rusty Wallace...forgot he was from St. Louis. I'd say two but Red will probably get that

DK was honored for game number 57 by his Widow and children

Whitey I've got at 3

As for Randy Orton...perhaps. Who knows.

How about Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee of Rush on September 12, which is is on Neil Peart's Birthday, since they had some batting Practice with the Cardinals in the early 1990's. It would also be appropriate for

Geddy to sing O Canada at Busch even though the Expos are now the GNATS!

How about Mark Whiten, the only Cardinal to hit 4 home runs in a game in '93 against the Braves?
