I remember a couple years ago, before the dressed to the nines project was put up, there was a project trying to chronicle the uniforms worn by major league teams by year. is it possible that i get the url for that project or any information regarding the arizona diamondbacks uniforms from 1998 to the present.

Go the the Dressed to the Nines exhibit on the Baseball Hall of Fame's website. Click on "Uniform Database" at the top and sort for what information you need.

Remember, the "Dressed to the Nines" exhibit deals only with home and road uniforms - no alts are included.

A guy I know did his master's thesis in advanced mathematics on the D'Backs' uniform combinations. There were, at one time, approximately 19, 800 different combinations.

I don't have pics of them all, but living in Phx I have seen them.

Inagural year (1998) (Russell Athletic)

Home: white pinstriped "Diamondbacks" across front

Home alt: white pinstriped sleeveless "A" on chest

Road: grey pinstriped "Arizona" across front

Road alt: black with "A" on chest

Other alt: Purple with "Arizona" across front

BP: similar to road alt, but mesh and no sleeve trim.

Hats:

Home: purple with A logo

Road: Black W/ teal bill - A logo

Alt 1: White W/ purple bill - A logo (only worn with sleeveless jerseys)

Alt 2: Teal W/ Purple bill - A logo (only worn one time)

Home helmet was purple with D logo

Road helmet was black with purple bill and A logo

1999:

Changed home helmet to resemble home hat

Changed road hat to solid black with D Logo and road helmet the same

Dropped teal hat

changed BP top to say "Diamondbacks" on front similar to home jerseys

Changed numbers on purple jersey from teal to copper

2000: (Rawlings)

Dropped white hat

2001:

Home jersey chaged to chest "A" logo

Road jersey changed to sleeveless

Road alt changed to "Arizona" across front

BP top changed to "D" logo

Added mesh BP cap with snake head logo

2002:

dropped purple jersey

2003:

changed BP top and jersey to new material

2004: (Majestic)

dropped patches from undershirts on sleeveless jerseys

2005:

no changes that I have noticed

i know that that website is there - there is also the MLB style guide reference of all uniforms worn during the double knit polyster era. at Http://www.ssur.org, what i was asking is if i could get the original information on the project that was started on this website BEFORE Dressed to the Nines was posted by the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

I am a newbie to this so i dont know if i can post mutiple questions, is there anybody that has a spare copy of the D' Backs Cream/Purple Hat or Teal / Purple that was sold during their inaguaral season size 7 5/8

they wore them indeed in thier inaugural season with the vest jerseys.

oh yeah, they also experimented with a coaches hat that was teal with a purple bill too. no, I am not kidding. because I own one.

Remember the purple jerseys ( , but less -ish than the black ones they have now), remember the hats ( squared!!), but I don't remember the "coaches' hats" ICS mentioned. The idea is so garish in my head, I can't wait to see the real thing.

I'll look for pictures; I remember they weren't around after the original season - I think people crucified Showalter for having all the ridiculous mix & match combos that hampered the development of a consistent identity for his expansion team while at the same time being a proponent of baseball history and tradition.

I really liked the purple jerseys once they decided to use copper numbering. Yes, Paul, purple does have a place in sports uniforms on occasion.

By far the weirdest feature of the D-Backs' 1998 set was that all the caps featured the "A" logo, and the batting helmets had the "D" logo which would later become the road standard. So players were wearing a different logo in the field than they were at the plate. I got the feeling watching Arizona that year that they were throwing everything out there just to see what stuck. Unfortunately, what stuck were grey pinstriped road vests. Feh. But hey, in comparison to the Devil Rays' "pride parade" threads, their stuff was classic.

The D-Backs wore the white ones for some games in 1998 and I think once in 99. The coaches wore them for spring the first three years I believe.

Now, with Texas, all the coaches wear the red Rangers hats in spring training. It looks odd seeing people in the dugout with different hats.

Living here in Phoenix, I actualy like the D-Backs Alt home uniforms better than the regular home jersey. Something about a sleveless uniform for the hottest city in the Major Leagues.

True that they play indoors in the BOB, still the humidity can get up there (Especialy during monsoon season).

I do have an unused Purple Alt that was for the WS in 2001 (complete with WS patch, given to me since I worked at BOB for 1 1/2 years). I did have it personalized (with the last name "NELSON" and the number "2").

Though I was sad to see them drop the jersey we have way too many combo's. Perhaps the new ownership will do some altering and restyle the entire package to something more "major League"
