Let's see, if I remember right, a lot of people predicted the Phillies, Mets, Marlins, or Nats to win the East, bringing down Atlanta's winning streak.

Whatever happened to those predictions? Hmm?

Maybe last year.

I went against the "Bravos" last year and I was dead wrong. As long as Bobby Cox is managing, I'll always have them as my pre-season pick as I did this year.

The Astros NOT winning this would be the biggest disappointment. Most favorable schedule, weakest division, as good a 1-2-3 starting pitching lineup as there is.

The Phillies win only if they are leading after the 6th. If Rollins can learn to be a leadoff hitter and get on base a little more, they could be fine.

The Nationals look like they're remembering they were the Expos. Which is a shame, because I liked the way they were playing earlier. But the law of averages is catching up with them.

The Marlins are viable, but that pitching may not hold up. Beckett is a blister away from the DL all the time, and Dontrelle tends to drop off at the end of the year.

That said, GO PHILS. Maybe they can keep flying under the radar shield T.O. has afforded them.

In order for the Mets' run of 12 losses in 17 games to mean something, the Phillies still had to win 13 of 17.

Don't mind him, he's a Phillies fan. They don't exactly scream winner in my books.

I, on the other hand, think the Mets have a decent shot, but let's see if that horrific crash between Beltran and Cameron doesn't get in their heads first.

No, but the Eagles really doesn't scream out winner in my book, so do yourself a favor and find someone dressed as Santa Claus and boo him until he cracks you upside the head with a lump of coal. :P

^^^^^ You're saying the mets have no shot...?

I'm not saying the Mets don't have a shot.

However, I don't think they're more likely to win it than the 4 teams I listed.

The Mets have overrated starting pitching. There's Pedro, Benson, and... not a lot. Zambrano and Glavine aren't at .500, Ishii is a 3-9 disaster. The bullpen? Look at tonight: with Pedro, 8-0. Enter bullpen, 8-6 after 3 outs are recorded. Looper doesn't inspire confidence, not like Wagner, Lidge or Cordero.

As for their offense: 1 .300 hitter, 2 guys with > 15 HR. No Cameron, probably for the year. Piazza's a year older.

I'm not saying the Mets can't win, I just can't see them outcompeting the field to get that wild card spot.

Seadragon: the Santa Claus thing... it's over 30 years old. Santa was drunk and flipping off the crowd. Let it go, find new material. At least Philadelphia has passionate fans. Keep waiting for the next Jack Sikma to deliver your town a title; let us know when he shows up. Junior, A-Rod and the Unit couldn't do it, and now you've got... um... yeah.

It was either that or bring up T.O. again, and I don't know about you, but it's getting a little annoying.

You have no idea. My wife is a Giants fan, and she's thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis close to destroying a TV at the next story of him lifting weights on his nabby, browned-out front lawn.

I never felt better than the day I DIDN'T get a #81 gamer in midnight green...

Phillies ahead by a game and a half over Houston, and are now a season-best 10 games over .500!

They're also guaranteed to have the lead tomorrow! Between the off day and the margin between the Astros and the Fightin' Phils, there won't be a flip-flop in leaders like there has been for the bulk of the week ...

make it 10.......damn Citron  . I love the Phillies and hope they win, but I think the Marlins and Astros will make it interesting. Washington is scrappy but doesn't have the talent and I think the Mets will pove to be a pretender.
