Astros Fans

So I'm reading the fan forums on the Cardinals website and Its full of nothing but ignorant Astros fans ridiculing Cardinals fans in profanity laden posts. Yeah you won, congratulations on beating the Cardinals in every facet of the game.

Here is one quote in particular that confused me: Never liked that dirty park, or their hillbilly fans!!!

now maybe im wrong and this is probably stereotypical but isn't ironic that someone from Texas would be calling St. Louis people hillbillies?

Anyway I was just hoping that all the Astros fans on this board could tell me that these A$$holes are not indicitive of what Houston and their fans are like.

I guess I don't understand why they are hating on the Cardinals fans. How many other teams fans would have applauded the opposing team after they just eliminated their own beloved ballclub?

these people do not represent all Astros fans, believe me. Yes, there may be some animocity, but isnt that there in all rivalries, but this is definitly a minority, most Astros fans a good people. I respect all Cardinals fans and team personnel for the valiant effort against the Astros

Ah, the time honored tradition nowadays...

After beating an opponent, take over their message board and act like asses...

Hmmm...looks like a lot of parents decided to leave Junior unsupervised near the computer after the final out last night down round Houston way...

Wouldn't worry about it being a barometer as to how Astros Nation acts (FYI, I ain't a 'Stros fan, but I kinda was pulling for them b/c of Bagwell (CT native) and Ausmus (another CT native).)...usually folks that do something like this weren't real fans to begin with.

Come on, you know better. How many people hide behind online personas and act like complete fools? Just because someone's an ass online, first it doesn't mean everyone is, and second it doesn't even mean they are.

You know from playing the astros 1000 times over the last 2 seasons that their fans are amongst the best and most knowledgeable in the game. You know our rivalry is a friendly one, where both sides respect and like each other from the players, to the front offices, to the fans, to the batboys.

If any team had to beat us, I'm glad its the Stros. Forget about what 3 guys said on the message boards. You don't even have to register for those things. how many of them that said that were Base Ball?

Payback for last year, maybe? Just a thought...

I really think the Cardinals will be even better next year if Rolen can remain healthy and dead weight Larry Walker retirement frees up like 12 million dollars or something. They'll be fine, but go 'Stros.

It's like that with every team. Every fan base will have it's ***hole fans... and it's generally not the ones who were there through the tough times. Take the Red Sox of last year, for example -- they win the World Series, and suddenly, the fanbase grows. And those 'fans' were an annoyance even to those who were fans through the Aaron Boone walk off shot, and all the other failures.

I must say, though... on the Red Sox board I frequent, upon being swept by the White Sox, Chicago fans were fantastic.

I know quite a few Astro fans, thanks to the fact that 60% of my law school graduating class were Texans. I got emails from three of them overnight with nothing but nice things to say about the Cards. Most of the Astro fans with whom I've been acquainted have been very good baseball fans, quite knowledgeable and sportsmanlike. Honestly, most of the people from Texas that I've gotten to know over the years have been extremely friendly and polite. I don't know where this caricature of the obnoxious boorish Texan comes from, but it certainly deviates from the folks I've met.

And I'm not taking sides in this series. I'm going to sit back and enjoy whatever plays out - I think it should be a very compelling series with some great pitching in two vastly different parks.

well I'm glad to hear that these idiots are the exception to the rule, it looks like this cardinals/astros matchup could turn into one heck of a rivalry, if it isnt already.

Certainly you can't mean anyone here, PC...

As for the 'Stros, I'm happy for guys like Biggio and Bagwell who decided to make a career of it in Texas (especially seeing how they're both northeastern guys) and stayed through a lot of heartbreaking years. For them to finally reach the Series is a nice accomplishment for them both.

Every team has a few fans who regrettably soil the good name of the rest of the fan base. As a proud Philadelphian, I know this shame all too well. Most of us are intense, loyal fans who support our teams fervently. But nationwide we're known for the lunatic fringe that acts the fool and makes the rest of us look like douchebags. So it is with Houstonians and Astros fans. Don't judge them all for the actions of a few morons who have nothing better to do than poop all over a conquered foe.

In order for the Mets' run of 12 losses in 17 games to mean something, the Phillies still had to win 13 of 17.

I'd just like to echo what everyone else had said...obviously, all Astros fans aren't like this. I myself am an Astros fan, and I have a great respect for Cardinals fans. I think that the past 2 years have given us 2 great series, and it is safe to say that both teams have handled their competitiveness in a classy way.

Ive been to games at both Busch (which is my favorite park) and Minute Maid (which is my second favorite) and i found both fans at those parks to be particularly friendly. I had a balst at both parks and the Atmosphere was the main reason why. I compare this to Yankee Stadium where the fans were although very proper, not terribly friendly, and Oakland wherethe fans pretty much keep to themselves. Of course this is judgement form only one visit to the park (other than Oakland where I go all the time)

well with this rivalry heating up i hope to some day in the near future make a visit to minute maid park. Although I think the dimensions are ridiculous :P , It looks like a very nice ballpark to take in a ballgame. Thanks to all you Astros fans who have been gracious in victory, its hard to watch my cardinals go out the way they did because I know they are better than how they played. I know we can all sympathize with one another between last year and this year.

Accually, youd like it as long as you dont sit in the upper deck. The heat is miserable. And you know the words to Deep in the Heart of Texas. :P

A lot of 'Stros fans are friendly, the stadium is nice yada yada yada....True for the most part, however......

There are a ton of 'front-runner' Houston fans who drink WAY to much and can't wait to get in your face if you're wearing the other team's gear. I know this for a fact. The big secret in H-town is that they would trade in their NBA trophies and this entire World Series for a sniff of the Lombardi trophy. Any Houstonian who says differently is LYING!

Not trying to rain on the Astro parade. Just trying to educate the masses.

Go White Sox.

Cheer up, Astros fans. At least your fans aren't known for slapping opposing players' wives. The same fan base that included the Ligue family brings you this MENSA candidate.

Guillen apologizes after Sox fan slaps Biggio's wife

Now, I am not impugning ALL White Sox fans with this, because that's just stupid reasoning, the kind of thing that touched off this thread. This is just to prove that it happend everywhere, with every team. There is always a lunatic fringe that sullies the good name of most teams' fans and uses the blanket of "love for the team" as an excuse for any misbehavior up to and including felony assault.

Just root for your team, and everything'll be all right.
