Super Bowl in your back yard

Ive been playing Madden tonight and i have a franchise with my team being the Bucs. The Bucs happened to get to the Super Bowl ( :P ) which had been awarded to Raymond James Stadium. My question is, if a team ever got to a Super Bowl that was in their own home stadium:

1. Would the NFL Allow it?

2. If the Home team had the worse record, would they still get the home teams locker room?

3. Since there is such a large home field advantage, would they even bother giving the "Road" team and Endzone?

What do you think?

Well the Rams played Super Bowl XIV in nearby Pasadena and the 49ers in nearby Stanford in Super Bowl XIX it will be just a fact of life and it will be an oddity but the NFL cant change it.

1. Yes, it's allowed. The Super Bowl site would not change.

2. Conference reps roatate home and away. (Home teams: NFC odd, AFC even) Records don't matter.

3. Both teams would most likely get pained endzones

OK this wont happen, but it came close to happening in 1980 with the Rams and Raiders at the Coliseum, Ok well, its a bit different though, considering neither team played at the coliseum (I think). What if for some crazy reason the Meadowlands was awarded the Super Bowl and the Jets and Giants both made the Super Bowl? How would they work out the Season Ticket holders? (This is assuming the Giants and Jets fans share the same seats for season tix)

Super Bowl tickets don't go to season ticket holders. And if they did, I'm sure the NFL would have a lottery system.

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

Ahh. Ok then. Thanks. I just assumed it was like the MLB where Tix sell first to season ticket holders, or like in College where the students of that particular school get to buy the tickets first

NFL has some available in a random drawing. Your name must be in I think the week of the Super Bowl before. So for example the week of SB XL, you have to get your name in for the drawing of SB XLI.

Yes, it can happen in the home stadium, but sadly it hasn't quite been there yet. I doubt it will in the upcoming years, either. XLI is in Miami, and XLII is in Arizona. The closest it's been were the Rams in XIV in Pasadena, and the 49ers in XIX at Stanford Stadium, which is in the process of being torn down.

Season ticket holders for the participating teams are in a drawing. This drawing takes place the Monday after the conference championship games. Limit is 2 tickets. My stepdad had won a ticket lottery with the 49ers for Super Bowl XVI.

1 There is way too much involved in a Super Bowl to change that late in the process. The team would play in its own stadium.

2 Like someone else mentioned, the locker room / sideline situation would not be impacted by the fact that the stadium belongs to one of the teams.

3 I don't think there is really much of a home field advantage for a SB, because the fans would be pretty evenly split (or possibly even favor the "away" team.)

4 With all the pomp and circumstance surrounding a game of this magnitude, neither team would be really relaxed or feeling at home. I don't think it would really be an issue.

There is no way they would change the stadium if a team ended up playing at home for the Super bowl.

Because....

A) Very few people in the host city actually GO to the Super Bowl, I think there's some type of formula in how they divide tickets. Only something like 2,500 tickets are available to the general public, since so many tickets go to sponsors, league officials, contest winners, city officials and the media. Although I do believe that about 500 tickets each are given to the two teams participating, and that those teams usually will give those tickets to the people who have had season tickets the longest.

B) Many aspects of the Super Bowl are designed with the stadium's structure in mind. Take the half-time show for example, some of the pyrotechnics and fireworks might work in an outdoor stadium, but might set the roof on fire in an indoor one.

I'm probably wrong (again) on this, but didn't the Dolphins play in a Super Bowl at the Orange Bowl?

It's never happened. The Dolphins have played in five Super Bowls in their history (VI, VII, VIII, XVII, XIX), and none of them have been played in South Florida.

VI--Tulane Stadium, New Orleans

VII--Los Angeles Coliseum

VIII--Rice Stadium, Houston

XVII--Rose Bowl, Pasadena

XIX--Stanford Stadium, Palo Alto

Other than the Rams in SB XIV and the 49ers in XIX, no other team played in a Super Bowl in their home market.

Here's some Super Bowl history info

Although it hasn't really happened in the United States, it is frequent in Canada with the CFL Grey Cup game (since there are only 9 teams it's bound to come up). Officially they try to maintain the same non-biased atmosphere as if the game were being played some place else. Obviously, the crowd is largely cheering for the home team.

Interestingly enough, the home team doesn't usually win at its own city's Grey Cup game. Here are the results since 1958:

Teams that lost at their own Grey Cup Game:

2002 Edmonton -- Edmonton Eskimos lost to Montreal Alouettes

1983 Vancouver -- B.C. Lions lost to Toronto Argonauts

1982 Toronto -- Toronto Argonauts lost to Edmonton Eskimos

1979 Montreal -- Montreal Alouettes lost to Edmonton Eskimos

1963 Vancouver -- B.C. Lions lost to Hamilton Tiger Cats

Teams that won at their own Grey Cup Game:

1994 Vancouver -- B.C. Lions defeat Baltimore CFLs

1977 Montreal -- Montreal Alouettes defeat Edmonton Eskimos

1972 Hamilton -- Hamilton Tiger Cats defeat Saskatchewan Roughriders

If Stanford Stadium is being torn down, will it be ready by next season for Stanford to play in?

I think its just being renovated. Theyre lowering the seating capacity(SP?) and removing the track surrounding the field
