Jigga
I'm just going to sit back and wait for all you guys to knock Brees about being greedy and just going for the biggest contract like you would if a basketball or baseball player did the same thing...Why do I have the feeling I'm going to be waiting a long time? This was a classic money grab if I have ever seen one. Why in the would you go to New Orleans instead of Miami? The Dolphins are just plain better, Nick Saban showed he is an outstanding coach last year, the Saints don't know for sure where their franchise will be based in a couple of years, and oh yeah, Florida doesn't have income taxes...I don't get it. rainmaker17
The only reason I could see Brees choosing New Orleans over Miami is the proximity to Texas (where he's from). I'm not saying this is why he chose the Saints, but it could have played a factor.
Moser316
NO! Now that the Saints have their quarterback, they won't have to draft Leinart in the first round, thereby freeing the pick for Mario Williams (the DE that Green Bay was looking at taking fifth overall). Looks like A.J. Hawk is going to be wearing a Packers uniform next year...
FiddySicks
And Matt lienart Breathes a sigh of relif. Wow. This changes the look of the draft completely!!! First Edge now Brees? Whats gotten to these second rate teams? On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.) WSU151
Why in the would you go to (the Saints)instead of Miami? Maybe he's just fond of Southern California.--- ducks ---- Call me dumb, but I'm pretty sure Brees signed with New Orleans AFTER Culpepper was traded to Miami. That, and Brees was demanding more guarenteed money than Miami was willing to give. See: NFL Offseason Transaction thread. Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half. WSU151
From profootballtalk.com:BREES DEAL IS A ONE-YEAR ARRANGEMENTLost in the hubbub regarding the decision of Drew Brees to sign with the Saints is the fact that his contract is, as a practical matter, a one-year deal. Why? Because the deal contains a whopping $12 million option bonus due in the spring of 2007, in addition to his $8 million signing bonus. We're not saying that the Saints won't pick up the option if Brees has an MVP season and delivers a Lombardi to the Bayou. Barring that highly unlikely outcome, however, the contract will either be terminated or restructured in a year, making the thing a one-year, $10 million deal. So, as a practical matter, Brees doesn't have much more security than he would have had if the Chargers had slapped the franchise tag on him. As a result, we're not prepared to give much credence to the news that the Saints will look to trade out of the No. 2 spot in the draft. At a time when the team is looking to parlay the Brees season ticket sales for folks who are happy to hear that Drew is coming to town, the last thing that the franchise needs to emphasize over the next months or so is the possibility that the Brees is but a Band-Aid.Don't be shocked, then, if the Saints ultimately declare that they couldn't get commensurate value for the pick, and that they had no choice but to use on Matt Leinart. Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.
NJTank
That would be idiotic they need to get a deffender or offensive line now, Leinart does the Saints no good. www.sportsecyclopedia.com For the best in sports history go to the Sports E-Cyclopedia at http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com
HatManTC
well neither does Brees. the guy had one good year but thats because he had to or he was meat. i am glad to see Philip Rivers get a chance in SD. by RoscoeUA by gingerbreadman
Braden
Looks like Brees will be a free agent next year then. It's impossible that he can have the same success coming off a big injury and being surrounded by a worse supporting cast.

RickV
Don't be shocked, then, if the Saints ultimately declare that they couldn't get commensurate value for the pick, and that they had no choice but to use on Matt Leinart. My understanding of the deal was that part of Brees contract was that the Saints would promise NOT to use their first round draft choice on ANY quarterback. Also how could the Saints afford to draft Leinart and pay him a signing bonus of as much as 15-20 million by some estimates, on TOP of the 8 million signing bonus they must pay Brees. statebully
i still say they'll trade down to the forth pick with the jets. then new york and tennessee will take their quarterbacks, while the saints can pick their defensive guy at four and get some other picks thrown in for good measure.
