Also, something cool that they are having on the backstop. Instead of the brick that alot of the new stadiums have, they are putting 3-D renderings of the past logos back there. So if a passed ball hits one of those, could cause some unique bounces. I think there are 9 of them total I read somewhere. Here's a few pictures:

That stadium looks gorgeous. I love the view of the arch. Well done, St. Louis.

I can't wait for April 27. It's my tenth wedding anniversary and my wife and I are celebrating by taking in the Cards-Nats contest. Our first date was a Cards game (2-1 over the Giants in June, 1994), so we agreed to get tickets for that night.

Just more proof that when the Cards do things, it's first class....

Gonna have to make a trip back out there for a game eventually. As "cookie cutter"ish as Busch II was, it still had a LOT of charm....Busch III is just off the charts though.

www.kmov.com has great pictures up. They went on a tour the other day all around the stadium, plus everyday they take overhead shots. You might have to register though. Its kinda weird, sometimes you do, sometimes you don't.

www.kmov.com/stadiumcam is a live camera of the stadium as well.

Ignorant Question from someone who's never been to St. Louis (although my dad lived there for 3-4 years): were the scoreboard not positioned where it is in right-center field, how much more of the Arch would be visible from the perspective of the photographer in these pictures? And what is the green (oxidized copper?) domed building just beyond the left field bleachers?

Busch III looks great, and what the Cardinals did in building Ballpark Village is visionary. I will be making a trip at some point in the near future (Busch II was one I regret not getting to, with Old Comiskey and the Astrodome.). I'm still waiting for the Phillies to figure this out, and build some brownstone condos beyond the outfield wall at CBP, put some bars, restaurants and stores at street level, place parking garages strategically in the area, and make it a sort of Wrigleyville Between The Interstates (on a clear day, you could see from I-76 clear out to I-95...).

In order for the Mets' run of 12 losses in 17 games to mean something, the Phillies still had to win 13 of 17.

You, I was thinking the same thing. The arch looks great looking into the outfield, but why not maximize the view of the city's most famous landmark and put the scoreboard in left center instead of right center?

Even so... looks like it's going to be an awesome stadium. Excuse to go visit my sister in St. Louis and go see baseball!

The Green domed building is the Old Courthouse. Today its used for wedding pictures and that's about it. I don't think once everything is finished (ballpark village) that it will be visable from the stadium. Seeing it now, I kinda wish it would be though.

As for the Arch, its more visible from the seats. I'm not sure why the scoreboard was placed right there, but as you can see below, its a pretty big part of the skyline from the seats. It's blocked by other buildings anyway, so moving the scoreboard wouldn't help. The scoreboard is also in that area because you will be able to watch the games from the street, a'la AT&T Park in San Fran.

And here's some renderings I just found of the Ballpark village:

That is by far the most beautiful stadium ive ever seen. This just may replace Pac Bell Park (or whatever the hell it is) on my top spot for stadiums.

I swear, it's like there's nothing that stupid organization can ever do wrong. They're opening a great new park while the Cubs are ruining a perfectly good old one. They just do everything right, across the board. I hope they finish sixth. Argh.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

I like the fact that their going into the past for the scoreboard design. All that's missing is the eagle, but I'm not so sure they could use one that big with today's PC environment.

I made the trip down to Busch Stadium last year for it's final season, but I'm now getting pretty excited to see the new one.

The Cardinals are a first class organization and seem to be doing everything right with the new one.

I'll have to give it a couple of years for the initial demand to tickets to calm down and give my son a chance get a little older so he can appreciate a road trip with Dad and experience an outdoor ballgame since the chances of getting a new stadium here seem about nil.

Actually, they still do use it -- it's just on top of a billboard facing westbound Highway 40 (I-64) just west of downtown.
