The Saints

If the Saints win the SUper Bowl it would be a miracle equivillant of the 69 Mets

Considering the circumstances, I think New Orleans winning the Super Bowl would be a bit bigger than the 69 Mets. But tats just me.

IT's early in the season a lot of teams where white early in the season because it's still hot out. The Eagles have done that the last few years the will switch to dark at home in a few weeks. Same thing with the Texans. The other teams you mentioned have traditionally done it. The only new team is the Saints.

Actually the Saints wearing white at home was a bit of a tradition. Back when they played outdoors they wore white at home most of the time - at least until fairly late in the season (for example, they were wearing black in the game when Dempsey kicked the then-record field goal). I've seen old clips of Archie Manning wearing white in Tulane Stadium. They have typically worn black at home since moving into the Dome in the mid 70s.

More and more, I find myself pondering the viability of soccer's "change set" format.

as do i. shoot, damn near every team could do it.

At the very least, red teams would probably have enough contrast against green, black, and blue.

I know this is a tad off topic, but:

Does anybody know what sort of safety state is the city in?

I hear that's it's still a disaster zone.

If that is the case, it makes me kind of sick that the NFL has priority over restoring people's lives in this area. All the workers who fixed the Super Done could have been fixing homes.

Consider this - getting to play a divisional rival on "homecoming night" was a little less unfair than having to play a "home game" in the other team's stadium in the Meadowlands rather than at a neutral site.

True, much of New Orleans, especially the lower 9th, still looks as incomprehensibly ruined as is did right after Katrina. Your issue with rehabbing the dome was actually addressed on the broadcast last night. It was mentioned that the $185 million used to rehab the Dome could have built many houses. However, since the tourism and convention industries are so vital to New Orleans, it was absolutely crucial to rebuild the Superdome as quickly as possible, to get revenue streaming back into the city. Definitely not an easy choice to make, but when it's explained that way, it seems like the smarter way to go about rebuilding the city. Otherwise, you've got a bunch of homes, and no jobs for the people who live in them.

I hadn't considered that. Tit for tat.

This is very simelar to, as I've heard it put many times, "the best thing you can do to help recovery, is to bring your conventions to New Orleans, or attend a convention in New Orleans." As was mentioned on the broadcast many times last night, the tourist areas are still open for business, and many largely unaffected by Katrina. To facilitate those conventions returning, the Superdome had to be rebuilt too - forget that it's a football stadium...

More like "budget of the government of the state of Louisiana" Smartie-pants Kathleen shifted the reliance of the budget from a more diversified state to one that leaned heavily on tourism, especially in New Orleans. As a result, the state lost $2 billion/year of its budget. Smart. Smart. Smart. <_<

With that said, the Superdome was fixed with money specifically earmarked for its renovation from FEMA, the NFL, and private resources. It isn't as though they dipped into the general fund to fix it.

[Croatia National Team Manager Slavan] Bilic then went on to explain how Croatia's success can partially be put down to his progressive man-management techniques. "Sometimes I lie in the bed with my players. I go to the room of Vedran Corluka and Luka Modric when I see they have a problem and I lie in bed with them and we talk for 10 minutes." Maybe Capello could try getting through to his players this way too? Although how far he'd get with Joe Cole jumping up and down on the mattress and Rooney demanding to be read his favourite page from The Very Hungry Caterpillar is open to question. --The Guardian's Fiver, 08 September 2008

ask the people down there if that money shouldn't have been spent on getting the saints back in the dome! i guarantee about 90% of people in new orleans are so pumped to have the saints back and the dome up and running. it looked better than ever to me. its already been said here, people need a break and something else to turn to. i promise you, this community will support this team!

Well said. Few people who haven't lived in N.O. can really appreciate what the team means to the city and its citizens.

Now on to this...SAINTS!!! I'm back at work (in Atlanta of all places) after attending the game Monday night. I've been to Saints games since 1969 and to the 'dome since it opened in 1975 and have NEVER heard crowd noise like there was Monday night. It was surreal to be in there. The Saints absolutely dominated. Like any longtime Saints fan, I was worried the Falcons would get back in the game and turn it into a nail-biter. It just didn't happen.

The Saints appear to me to be well-coached and on a mission. We'll see how they do in Carolina this week.

Pics from the game to follow later tonight or tomorrow.

I can't figure the Saints out. They came to play against Atlanta, and deserved that win, but against Green Bay I didn't think they were that good at all. But I guess getting a W, is all that matters.

But they have some great rookies on that team (not just Reggie). Looks like they have a solid foundation to build upon even if they can't go all the way this year. It's a bright future for New Orleans fans.
