thrift store gems '07

My latest purchase was a Road Leafs jersey, size L, with BELFOUR 20 on the back in the real fonts for $29.

But I have definitely found some gems in the past -- Moncton Alpines QMJHL jersey for $2, Blue Jays 1989-1996 home and road (but small) jerseys for $3 each, among the many... my favourite is probably a 1980s home St. Catharines/Newmarket Saints AHL jersey... super rare.

Where did you get those??

And Frenchie, I don't know why but "HofL" isn't coming to mind as to what that stands for. Man, I REALLY want to head out there if it wasn't such a pain... but I HOPE they are still in the window because I'm destined to go there next week!!!

You serious? Well given you're not turning 19 til this summer, I'm glad (and so would your Mom) that you don't know the HofL (and I am not talking about that alternative hairstyling salon on Yonge Street, House of Lords).

Not that I'm a visitor myself. Just drove by a few times coming back from the Mall.

Next time I drive by the Thrift store, I'll investigate.

I would make a special trip tonight, but I have parent-teacher interview at my daughter's school.

That's weird... I thought any Canadian boy under the age of 19 would've heard of, and been a victim of, the House of Lamicus.

In order for the Mets' run of 12 losses in 17 games to mean something, the Phillies still had to win 13 of 17.

I just got a report that my local Goodwill has two racks of K1 hockey jerseys for $10 each (reports of DesMoines Bucks and a college team that looks like Minnesota State Mankato, only blue). I'm headding there tomorrow to investigate...

FYI, K1 makes several USHL jerseys, and I know makes a 1980 Team USA Miracle on Ice jersey, and also makes WHL jerseys, and some college replicas...

I'll report back tomorrow.

Considering you're 38 years old (according to your profile) you'd think your math skills were a little better. I was born in 1987, the year is 2007, therefore I am turning 20, not 19. No worries though, I get mistaken for 18 all the time. :P

I'm willing to wager a guess that it represents "House of Lust" or something of the sort by what you're hinting at by saying it isnt the hair salon nor I should know since you thought I was not yet of age, lol. I never venture out to that area thats why I wouldn't know, I pretty much stick right downtown (where I live) and sometimes go out to Bayview and Eglinton for kicks. Otherwise anything really west of Bathurst or east of...um...the subway stop after Broadview... I'm not too good with, nor really anything above Eglinton. I am willing to get myself lost though if it would result in me aquiring some kick ass, cheap hockey jerseys!!!

Thanks for the info though, I really do want to find this place now. And if you do go in and find out anything else or see what else they have of value, if you could post it, it would be greatly appreciated.

heh, I'll add to the plethora of finds that took place somewhere other than an actual thrift store, and this is a twofer as it's also not a jersey...I was spendin some of my b-day cash and I hit the dollar store for scissors. When I came in, something caught my eye immediately: racks full of Expos mini-helmets. so now I have a miniature Expos batting helmet that only ran me a buck :)

there, fixed it for you....

No no no. There, now its right.

Believe it or not, when I did the age calculation thing, I took 2006 as the current year

I must be in denial.

And to think the teacher said last night that she was refering my daughter to be tested for gifted in Math

As far as the HofL, even I thought you were old enough, and someone who likes that type of "visual stimulation", I would strongly advised against that one... no need to elaborate why... and while you have the right idea of what the place is, the L stands for Lancaster (don't know why, don't care why, and not willing to google it at work ...)

I am planning to stop at the Thrift Store myself next time I'm around to see what the story is about those shirts. And if you are planning to go, I guarantee you can't get lost: Dufferin Subway station (5 stations west of St-George (downtown line)) on Bloor line, walk west on the south side of Bloor Street, or Lansdowne station, walk east.

90% of the jerseys are K1's stock blank templates (lots of colors and styles), but those that aren't are quite interesting... A couple Martha's Vineyard youth hockey jerseys, a Western Michigan Univ. replica, a couple Sysco "Ice Cubes" jerseys, and then some generic jerseys with a large "I" on the front. The Minnesota State jersey that's blue, I suspect is a youth Minnetonka high school jersey (Twin Cities suburbs), and the Sioux Falls Stampede jersey is the only one not a K1 - it's made by Gemini Athletic Wear - which makes more sense, as they make a ton of USHL, college and HS jerseys... Also, they have a couple FAMU, "African Intercolegiate Coaches Association" jerseys (orange with green trim - yes, I know it's Florida A&M).

Then the one I might have to go back and get - a yellow and black jersey with a Montreal Canadian's like logo on the front, but it's perfectly round. It also has deer heads embroidered on the shoulders... Anyone know what the story there is?

Today I scored a 95/96 Raptors home jersey with Stoudamire on the back for $14 and a home Calgary Flames jersey (80-94) for $8.

Not a bad haul.

WHERE ARE YOU GETTING THOSE??????

Those Raptors jerseys are one of the coolest jerseys of all time, IMO. I hope to snag a Carter one someday.

Was able to drive by yesterday, and noticed that this THRIFT STORE seems close, but the items in the window all have numbers assigned to them, with some (home-made) posters in the window advertising a May auction.

So it looks like the shirts I was refering about (home and away Oliers- plus 3 others I hadn't seen before: Bure Vancouver and Florida, BlackHawks white (didn't see if it was numbered) will be up for auctioning soon.

I've seen a Goodwill store that had silent auction for their vintage/antique material once a month. I guess it's a good way for them to get more money, as opposed to underpricing items they don't know the real value.

I snagged a few photos to a very dirty window with my camera-phone; I'll try to post them tonight.

I will also try to find out more info about that auction thing.

Just got a 1993 West Bromwich Albion away shirt (the ketchup and mustard one) from their last appearance at Wembley (3-0 over Port Vale) for $6. It's too big though so I'm planning to list it on eBay.

WHERE ARE YOU GETTING THOSE??????

If we told you, then you might find them next time instead of us. :P

Seriously, everything I've found has been in London, so I'm not competing with you. :flagcanada:
