St. Pat's NFL gear

This is when you know the NFL is king. MLB is in spring training and NHL and NBA are in regular season. But the NFL is going to sell St. Patty's merchandise. "Cheer for the Patriots while wearing Green on St. Patty's Day." Nobody else could pull this off in the offseason.

Why is St. Patrick's day celebrated in the uniform and overall sports community? I have always found it odd that teams feel the need to put green onto their uniforms, yet don't seem to do the same for other holidays.

Maybe they don't want to be pinched?

For one, green is a generally underused color. A few teams in each league wear it with distinction, but green is nowhere near as common as red, blue or black.

For two, what colors would you ascribe to the other holidays? The Flyers always wear orange and black on Hallowe'en, if that helps... :P

In order for the Mets' run of 12 losses in 17 games to mean something, the Phillies still had to win 13 of 17.

But that is what I am saying. You don't see a black and orange Patriot shirt. I understand a part of St. Patrick's day is wearing green, but you just don't see it being done for any other holiday. Just one of those petty things that bother me from time to time I guess.

Halloween. Good example. The Minnesota Wild or Toronto Maple leafs in orange and black. That would be cool once a year.

Or Christmas. I guess that would be the Lakers and Heat every year. Of course, the Devils should just switch back to that **ducks to avoid thrown objects** but I digress.

July 4. The Oakland A's in Red, white and blue. You know you want it.

Or the Devils should have a huge Easter theme... think about it...

As for the St-Patty's celebration, I hate to break it to you, but it is NOT ONLY the sports community... Go take a walk in any business districts and you'll see these freaks who will "honour" the green...

I think it's o.k. for the teams in a "traditionally Irish Heritage" market to do so, but I think we need to draw the line somewhere...

Maple Leafs have all the rights to bring back the St-Pats stuff out, and this year it's a Saturday... but hte Leafs are on the Road... in Montreal, another traditionally Irish canadian town (yes there is a HUGE Irish tradition in Montreal...)

I think the once Majority of Irish descendant has to hold on to something... Heck, any reason is good to drink, but keep the GREEN colouring out of my beer...

I think it has to do with green having more of a connection to St. Patrick's Day then any other holidays do to their particular colours. Generally people don't wear orange and black on Halloween, red and pink of Valentine's Day, pastels on Easter, or green and red on Christmas. Almost everyone, however, wears green on St. Patrick's Day. Beer's even dyed green.

As for the NFL gear, the shirt's ok. It's simple, and it gets the point across. That hat's way too over the top though. They need to get rid of all the clovers and just keep the one that contains the "NFL" lettering on the back.

I bought a Pittsburgh Steelers, St. Patrick's Day long sleeve t-shirt last year it's pretty cool dark green with the Steelers logo over a cool looking shamrock on the back and front, way better than this years plain green stuff.

Hideous, but at the very least it's appropriate for the team. If they made that crap for teams like the Raiders or the Vikings, then it would be even more ridiculous.

oh there's more...
