2008 MLB Season

I am so excited by the rumors about the Phillies looking for Matt Holliday and possibly Brian Fuentes. That would make them a really tough team to beat.

It seems the Pirates are finally hitting the point where they fully collapse.

I thought that was Opening Day?

Why exactly are we talking about the Pirates in July?

I can understand getting excited about Holliday, but what do the Phils have left to send to Colorado after the Blanton deal?

Thanks to MLB Extra Innings' free preview, I got to watch the Mets lose another game where they had a 3-run lead in the top of the 9th.

I guess that's Willie's fault, too.....

Tank's got to be happy that Wagner wasn't available.

Normally. But this year they decided to stay juuuust below the .500 mark until right after the all-star break.

I wasnt aware that when a team isnt exactly in the upper tier of the leauge by July, their fans arent allowed to mention how they have stopped having the small amount of success that they have this year which in itself is still an improvment from previous years.

I now know why he is so hated in Philly is a gutless no account puke who just may have cost the Mets there season, I want K-Rod in 2009.

I will be shocked if the Mets bounce back from this debacle, I see a sweep, and its all Bill the Coward's fault

I would love a sweep here. But to be completely honest, going into the ninth, I thought the Phillies chances were slim and even with So up. But wow good comeback and way to bail out Blanton (Even though Delgado went around on that should've been strike three which lead to the home run).

Yeah, good luck getting K-Rod, pal. Wagner is locked in with the Mets for at least another season with an option for the 2010 season. And on top of that, no team is crazy enough to have a $10.5M set-up man, not even the Metropolitans.

And oh by the way, nice choke job tonight!

So much more fun to check in with this thread tonight after the top of the 9th in the Phils @ Mets happened, than the alternative.

That would be bemoaning the acquisition of Joe Blanton, who looked just as able to give up a killer gopher ball as Adam Eaton or (shudder) Brett Myers.

Save the belly aching for another night though from this Phan. I'll enjoy the choke job executed by the likes of Sanchez, Feliciano, Joe Smith, and Heilman. Gotta love that Met bullpen...

Just got back from Shea...why do I keep torturing myself? This is the 4th 4+ run lead I've been to thus far this season alone that they've blown just like that.

They've ALL been on days I just go on a whim. I guess I can't do that anymore. Because I always end up pissed off.

I don't even know what to say about this one...

Dont be shocked if this is a season killer, I cant see this bunch recovering and winning this series, especially with John Maine on the mound tomorrow, Maine has been worse and worse lately.

Its almost like they get off doing this to their fans

Great idea. Just keep trying to buy your way out of trouble. It's worked really well so far. Has anyone mentioned it's a 162 game season? Listening to the fans, The Mets were all but dead a month ago. Now? You're 7-3 in your last 10, you're a game out of first, and there's still over two months of the season left to play. Who knows where you'll be next month. One thing I'm sure of is that no matter where The Mets are in the standings in a month, none of you will be happy about it. Baseball is a marathon not a sprint. Mets fans are really on the fast track to being every bit as annoying as Red Sox fans. If my team made me this :censored:-ing miserable I'd quit following them. :P

I won't go that far, but it is a confidence killer. I'm gonna say the Phillies will take the game tomorrow (even though Meyer's pitching) and the series, but the Mets avoid the sweep on Thursday. It doesn't get any easier with the Cards, but the Mets seem to do pretty well against them. As much as this loss hurts, I think they'll get back on track by the end of the week.

I dont know if they can bounce back I see a flat game tomorrow and a 10-run loss. They fought so hard to come back this loss feels like September over again, I trully think they may be cursed, maybe its that Dunkin Donuts cup taht made Shea Stadium look tacky in the LF pen. It seems they have bad bullpen luck ever since.

I need to move to Kansas City. These guys on FSN Kansas City have way too much fun.

They had a rain delay, so there's not many fans left at midnight CT. Some young couple was having a spat as they moved from the rightfield foul pole to some seats near 1st base, and the play-by-play guy has a running commentary about what these two just might be talking about.

If I were home enough to enjoy a majority of the games, I'd consider buying the Extra Innings package....

The firing of Willie Randolph saved the Mets season, this team has transformed back into a team that cares and plays with heart and now finally playing to their full potential, and will be a team to reckon with the rest of the way. Oh, but don't you worry. They'll eventually drop a game in a week or so and I'll do what I do best by losing my mind and give up all hope once again. I'll blame it on some ridiculous non existent curse and whine because our payroll is only double the rest of the leagues, rather than three times, like I want it to be. By September I'll be lobbying for God to become our manager, Babe Ruth to start at first, and Bill Gates to buy the team. And if they don't win then I'll become a Braves fan and hope they move to Mercury.

Now, speaking of team with REAL problems,

Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle notes that the Dodgers have a scout at the current A's-Rays series in Tampa Bay. Ken Rosenthal recently named the Dodgers as one suitor for A's closer Huston Street. Slusser also speculates that the Dodgers could consider shortstop Bobby Crosby.

Street is not at peak value right now, with eight hits and four runs allowed in his last three appearances. His average fastball velocity is down to 89.7 mph this year from 90.4 last year. Strikeouts are down, walks and home runs are up. He's dealt with a groin strain this season and ulnar nerve irritation last year. Street is under team control through 2010.

Other teams eyeing Street: the Mets, White Sox, and Brewers.

Uggh. Im guessing a rusty arm to an old pitching machine and four moldy Dodger Dogs would be Beene's asking price. God I love the A's.

I want Mark Cuban to buy the Mets.

Did you see tonights loss its a season destroyer and Billy Goat No Account Wagner faking shoulder pain so he would not be blamed.

If you saw what happened tonight you would see they are cursed or they enjoy ripping their fans hearts out, we finally believed again and they did this to us. It is actually quite amazing, their new fight song should be Build me up butter cup becuase thats all they ever do.
