2008/09 NBA New Logos & Uniforms

I heard the Kings are going to re-introudce the black into their uniforms, which if true, will be nice.

The Wolves are changing for sure...their owner confirmed it. And something about the Hornets ditching the yellow and going with pinstripes...but the word has been mum on most stuff :(

While I liked the uniforms of their early years in Sacramento (red and blue color scheme), I am hoping to see the Kings go back to their 2002 look when they last were in the Western Conference Finals.

Wait...you mean, re-introduce Black as a primary color of their road uniforms? They already have Black in their unis.

And the rumor is that the Hornets will change the Teal to something called "Mardi Gras Blue" - not drop the Gold.

(We've got plently of threads on this subject...maybe a mod could merge them all.)

I don't think it is that good of an idea to drop the yellow (or gold) from their current color scheme because then they may look too much like the uniforms of their original home (Charlotte Hornets). It would be interesting to see this Mardi Gras Blue though as I am curious.

I miss the old T-Wolves uniforms. I'd like to see them use the current colors with that set.

I SO agree with that. Maybe make their original road jersey a new alternate (more as a "retro" tribute).

"Mardi Gras Blue" doesn't make any sense. There's no such thing as Mardi Gras Blue, to my knowledge. I thought the Mardi Gras colors were purple, green, and yellow.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

God I hope my Kings ditch Purple. I HATE purple ina uniform (Paul Lukas will have my back on that one!) I would like to see them go back to a modern updated version of the POWER Blue!

If any team is going to use purple, shouldn't it be the Kings? I think gold would be appropriate as well.

Why? It's not like purple has been a consistent color for the Kings throughout their existence. Didn't it come about through their mid-90s redo? (and we know how well those redos from that era hold up in a modern setting. Bleccch)

Purple has been the color of royalty. Therefore, for team with a royal name like "Kings," it seems appropriate that they use purple in their color scheme.

Gee, I don't know - maybe because purple is the traditional color associated with royalty?

Are you saying that you dislike the look of the Lakers? They use purple and they have some of the best uniforms in the NBA.

If you REALLY want to talk about the colours of royalty, to me, burgundy and gold come to mind. That said, Sacramento is the capital city of the Golden State, so I vote for Burgundy, White and Black with gold trim. Could someone render something up for them like that so we could get an idea?

Well replace black with navy, and you've got the Cavs.

Personally, I think that a deep royal / athletic gold combo would be great for the Kings. It's a "regal" scheme, and it has a throwbackish quality in that it's a cool color scheme that not a lot of teams employ anymore.

I grew up in Sacramento but have lived the last 6 1/2 years in the UK so I am a bit out of touch. Following MLB, NHL, NBA, NFL and NASCAR are a cinch here with Sky Sports. Minor League baseball is a bit more tricky...

I think that even though they don't really use that color scheme anymore, too many people would still associated those colors with the Warriors.

It's been so long since they've used it, I had totally forgotten about that.

They were more blue and yellow, if the Kings worked in some white trim around the yellow or some other distinguishing feature it could work.

The Warriors desperately need a change though. They looked so classy in their r-w-b from the Phila. days, and also pretty good in their early SF days, it's a shame what they've become.

But then one would have the dark-blue and yellow Kings playing in the same division as the purple and yellow Lakers.

I thought the league was going to cut down on teams wearing black jerseys? 'Tis a shame Raptors totally ditched their purple. I wish they used a purple jersey as an alternate, even if they don't consider it an official color. Just look at the Mavs.

I think the NBA was cracking down on teams that didn't really have black in their color scheme using black alts - like the late 1990s Utah Jazz black and copper alts. Yes, black and copper were accent colors in their logo, but their primary colors were purple and white with mostly light blue accents in the mountain part of the sublimated logo on the jersey and shorts.

Since the Raptors now are red, white and black, they are fair game for a black alt. Also, they have the history of the half purple/half black road uniforms.

Sacramento also still uses black as a primary color and has a history of black road uniforms, so they would also be allowed.

I keep hearing rumors about the Raps getting a "Black Jersey" but I always feel people keep hashing up that old picture of Bosh wearing a photoshopped Black Jersey and keep pretending like it's something they've never seen before. Have there actually been any official sources stating that the Raptors will be getting a new alt?

On the other hand for many years (mid-1960s until early 1980s) you had the yellow at home/purple on the road Lakers in the same division as the yellow at home/blue (ranging from navy to royal depending on the year) on the road Warriors and it worked.

A VERY interesting post/thread on realgm.

Here are some notable excerpts:

Next year, four teams will have new jerseys, Orlando, Sacramento, Minnesota and he said Charlotte, but I'm wondering if he didn't mean New Orleans (Hornets). Then the following season, 8 teams will be getting new jerseys.

Things we've already known.

They are, according to his description, white for home, blue for road and both pinstriped. HOWEVER, the pinstripes on the jersey, as they hit the logo in the center of the chest, they slant outwards towards the shoulders. He made the drawing motion to show how they start straight until mid chest then sort of follow the neckline/collar and slant away over each shoulder. He didn't like it. Sounds funky to me, but the idea is starting to grow on me. The originals were pretty wacky and flashy after all.

LOLWUT
