2008 MLB All-Star Game

Does anyone really care who wins? The general reaction I get is that people just want to see who can hit the most (whether winning overall or not), or who can hit the farthest.

By far, the Derby MVP was Hamilton. Doubtful anyone will remember Morneau as the winner.

Remember the '99 All Star Game in Boston? I don't remember Ken Griffey Jr. winning. All I remember are Mark McGwire's moonshots across the street. Steroids or not, you remember the display and distance, not the trophy presentation.

EXACTLY. I'm not even positive who won the derby at Miller Park (Giambi, maybe?), but I DO remember Sosa slamming a 528 foot blast off the slide.

Yeah... people are going to remember Josh Hamilton and Josh Hamilton alone for this night. Impressive performance... he won in my book.

I know. Once Hamilton started putting on that slugfest, I almost hoped that my guy, Braun wasn't in it. I would have pulled for him right then and there all night. But, since Braun was in there I had to pull for him, and he did me proud taking third. I do wish Hamilton woulda won the whole shebang though, that would have put a cap on an unbeleivable night in NYC.

Marian Rivera WILL be the closer for the AL int he All-Star game, according to reports. However, it seems as though Papelbon had to step aside to do so, which bothers me for two reasons...

- It's Yankee Stadium, and it's the best closer we've possibly ever seen

- Where's K-Rod in all of this debate? The guy's probably going to break Thigpen's save record. Not only that, but he has 10 more saves than Papelbon, 15 more than Rivera.

I am not going to watch, but wouldn't be more fitting if Rivera somehow qualifies for teh win if the AL is up early to takes the lead after 5? If it is a blowout, he may not even qualify for a save, so why not try to get him eligible for the won? Plus, what are the odds that Lincicum was severly hungover, thus dehydrated?

Wow, could they have drug out that player introduction any further? They didn't even bother with the reserves.

Hey, Chris? Since you're probably watching from Canada, who sang the Canadian national anthem?

Isn't it always done by Geddy Lee? ... 'cause it should be. ^_^

Ginger, anything that happened tonight is gonna piss you off because it's the Yankees and Yankee Stadium. Better team. Better stadium. Sorry you feel so inferior. :-P

They introduced the reserves at the very beginning of the ceremony ... and no, they didn't run them out onto field or into the dugout to hang with any legendary benchwarmers.

Nobody. In fact, the anthem was done over the PA system and no flag over centre field.

Boggs in a Yankees hat? D*ck.

No Yaz or Fisk either? Classy.

Were Yaz and Fisk invited or accepted an invitation? Besides, it definite wasn't the Yankees that sent the invites, it was probably MLB.

and I did hear Bill Mazeroski get booed? ^_^

I saw, I came, I left.
