Boston! Fenway is tenatively announced as the host for the next Winter Classic game, to be held January 1, 2010. Most likely opponent would be either the Canadiens or the Rangers

From what I'm hearing it's most likely going to be either the Flyers or the Caps.

That's what we're hearing in Philly too

i think it might be the caps since the nhl would like (and would make sense) to have alex olvechkin in an outdoor game (if not 2010, 2011). my idea is to have the caps play the senators on the national mall (between the capitol and the washington monument). they can call it the battle of the capitals.

so long and thanks for all the fish.

Next person to post a "my team vs. my team's rival in my favorite stadium!" should be murdered.

The sooner the NHL and the rest of you realize my idea is the best of all, the better off we'll all be.

Would that be the NHL Hartford Whalers or the WHA New England Whalers?

NHL, of course. The WHAler jerseys were nothing to write home about.

Just thought I'd ask since you never know what the NHL would do or from what season they would pull the vintage jersey from.

In my perfect world, they'd take these

and pit them against these

It's a bit of an anachronism, of course, but that's what makes it fun. Of course, the NHL would want to use similar years, so they might take these instead

The Bruins and Fenway Park makes sense. Ones I would like to see in the future...

1. Capitals at RFK Stadium

2. Avalanche at Invesco Field

3. Blue Jackets at the Horseshoe

4. Canadiens at Alouttes' stadium (sorry for my ignorance dont watch any CFL)

5. Maple Leafs at Agronauts' stadium

6. Flames at Stampeders' stadium

7. Oilers at Eskimos' stadium

8. Canucks at Lions' stadium

Thing is a lot of the legendary baseball/football stadiums are disappearing thus its hard to find places to make it "traditional"

I think the Canadians will be the Bruins opponent because the Rangers want to host a Winter Classic themselves, and not be the visitors. Remember they tried to be the las event in the Old Yankee Stadium but issues prevented that. I think they will try again for the New Yankee Stadium. Also Bruins and Canadians are 2 of the Original 6.

I actually really like that idea. I don't know if they'd pull it off, but I like it.

Is this the part where I act shocked that you approve of something Alexander Ovechkin related?

Who cares about Ovechkin? Imagine the awesome photos you could get from that.

The Argonauts' stadium is the SkyDome, which can't be open in the winter. But they could play it at the home of the Toronto FC soccer team (BMO Field) or maybe at Ivor Wynne Stadium in Hamilton.

And the Alouettes' stadium is Molson Stadium, which is at McGill University.

Is Ottawa's stadium in decent enough shape to host one for the Senators?

I really doubt that the Habs would have an outdoor game at Molson Stadium. Bell Centre currently has a capacity of 21,273 for a hockey game. Molson stadium can fit only 20,202, at a football game. Plenty of seat would not be used (endzones) as there would be no view of the ice.

I think they would want to host it where they can have a bigger attendance, and the only way this is going to happen is in the Big O. Which wouldn't make it a traditional outdoors game.
