If the game's gonna count, then let managers pick who they want, as long as they do the responsible thing and pick the best players so far and not try to be a hero and say "Hey, the 9 guys I go to the park with every day could SURELY beat our rival league's best!" :P

Have All-Star teams selected by the leagues 14 or 16 team managers, but they can only pick players on other teams (and perhaps set a max on the amount of players per team they can pick); no min per team. If you need to have a fan vote (I'm sure it rakes in a lot of sponsor dough) you can do the vote for the final spot thing, perhaps from two categories - deserving players left off, and veterans on their last legs (or really young guns on the rise)

Justin Morneau will not be defending his HR Derby title. He is gonna take the time to rest. Hamilton will not participate either.

Josh Hamilton might as well take both nights off.... <_<

So it looks like Pablo Sandoval is gonna lose his All Star spot to not only one, but two completely undeserving Phillies. Oh yeah, fan voting is a good thing

So it looks like Matt Kemp is gonna lose his All Star spot to not one completely undeserving Phillies and Hunter Pence. Oh yeah, fan voting is a good thing for the game because it increases interest in the ASG but is proven to be a popularity contest, nothing we didn't already know though.

There you go.

Yeah Kemp (And Reynolds for that matter) lost a spot on the All Star team to guys who probably didn't deserve it as much, but in the final vote it was basically a two man race anyway. So yes it's a popularity contest, but Pablo was left off the first time because they insisted in including four first basemen for the NL (Howard), and is probably gonna be left off twice by losing the final vote to Victorino (even though Pablo's #s are better).

Hopefully David Wright pulls a Gale Sayers in the next game and it opens up a spot for Pablo :P

Well, now we have four Phillies who probably should not be playing in the All-Star game, on the roster. I mean, apparently the fans want to see Ibanez and Utley, so they're going to play (I'd consider trying to shift, say, Pujols to 2nd and start Gonzalez if it were possible)

Victorino just instantly became one of my least favorite players. So :censored: ing weak.

Oh, Sandoval shouldn't have even been in that vote, if you take him over Howard, and then you can vote Kemp over Victorino. Then, if Manuel's smart, he subs in Freddy Sanchez at 2nd and Brad Hawpe in left at the top of the 1st, and voila! Problem solved! You've got the players best suited towards winning the game, and you rest your own players. Plus, you then pitch Santana for the first six or so, go to K-Rod for the last three.

With all the controversy on the NL side, i'd like to congratulate Brandon Inge of the Detroit Tigers for making the All-Star team

I agree, Sandoval should have made the team long before this. But in retrospect, he's still on the top of the NL ROY list, so I guess I can't be too disappointed.

Only thing I disagree with you about though, Lincecum > Santana.

Ryan Howard gets the nod because he's from St. Louis. And when you get down to it, I think his stats were good enough that that's legit.

That said, Sandoval HAD to have won the extra vote. That's weak.

I'm also disappointed Figgy didn't get in. I really wanted to see him do the Ozzie flip that he said he would.

Calling a gold-glove outfielder for a World Series champion who is batting .308 with >60 runs scored and >100 hits, while batting in the winning run in numerous games this season "weak" is just silly.

Sandoval has .326 with 38 runs and 95 hits. He does have 48 RBI, compared to Victorino's 42. Someone show me the cut the "stick up for the home team guy" act and show how it's clear beyond a shadow of a doubt that Victorino shouldn be in.

Utley, Howard and Ibanez have 20+ HRs and 50+ RBIs, and when you combine that with the 20+/50+ from Werth, you have only the second time in MLB history that four players from one team reached that mark before the All-Star break (2000 Toronto was the other). Werth has been awesome but apparently most of you haven't seen him enough. I don't know if Charlie's going to take him or Sandoval, but that's one of the perks that comes with winning the pennant....you get to bring your own players if you want. Look at all the White Sox on the 2006 AL team. Were all of them worthy? Probably not. Victorino received over 15 million votes. Not all of them were from Philly....

A quick note on the Hanrahan thing from yesterday, since this is a uniform and logos board.......the Nats wore their road grays and the Astros wore their home whites for that 7-minute suspended game...
