"Third, the team will not be called the Jets. Apparently there is a desire (from who I am not sure) that a new fresh start be made with a new name, brand and identity, any guesses?"

Why they wouldn't rename the SAME franchise the "Jets" is completely beyond me.

Maybe because some worthless internet hack with the credibility of Bleacher Report needed to do something to generate hits? AND IT WORKED!!!

It was also tweeted today by @NHLSourcesSay. Not saying this will happen, but I don't think this was completely dreamed up.

Of course it's not completely dreamed up. People have been saying "move the Coyotes to Winnipeg" since they left Winnipeg. That said, credibility is a bit limited with the source.

I'm gonna miss getting to have conversations like

"Hey, you wanna put the Hawks game on?"

"Sure. Who're they playing?"

"Phoenix."

"haha how can there be a hockey team in Phoenix when it's so hot?"

"Yeah, it made more sense when they played in Winnipeg."

"What's Winnipeg?"

"You mean where's Winnipeg? It's like north of North--"

"No, what is it?"

Hockeybuzz, nhlsourcessay, and Ecklund, have no journalistic credentials and no sources. There is nothing to this story so please don't waste our time.

Until a credible source has a scoop assume that Winnipeg is not getting an NHL team.

Exactly. But if they all cite each other and say the same thing at once, suddenly it becomes credible in the minds who really, really want to believe what the headline says. "All these people are saying it, it's gotta be true!" No, it doesn't. All of these people are rumor-mongering dopes, and someone should plant the seed in one of their heads that the Atlanta Thrashers are going to be sold to the Toronto Legacy group, and see how far they run with that.

I've given a synopsis before of the numerous reasons the NHL will not return to Winnipeg. I'm too tired to type them again, so to sum up: No.

I have a fantasy team on NHL10 that I named the Winnipeg Falcons. I made their home jersey a replica of the 1920 Winnipeg Falcons jersey that was worn at the Olympics and the 2004 World Cup. I also made an away version of it.

Personally, I hope a new team in Winnipeg gets the name Falcons. It would be a great hommage to a great team.

Even though this is certainly bogus (of course a rerelocated Coyotes team would be the Winnipeg Jets again; the consumers would demand it), shouldn't we know by now here in 2010 that an x-axis of "journalistic credentials" and a y-axis of accurate reporting allow for all four quadrants to be well-represented?

Among the most recent rumours ? fuelled in part by Facebook pages and local FM radio hosts ? is NHL commissioner Gary Bettman was at MTS Centre Tuesday night while the AHL?s Manitoba Moose were playing the Worcester Sharks.

?All I know is that they?re not true,? Katz said.

?The NHL could come back to Winnipeg in the future, but it?s not happening right now. And whoever is creating these rumours should stop it. I?ve heard them all ? and I?m telling you there?s no truth to it.?

---

My sincere apologizes for help to perpetrate this unfounded rumor. Should've known better.
