They're similar to the set the Bullets wore from 1987-90, but not as good.

I always liked those Bullets unis before they switched to the generic numbers & name when Champion took over the uniforms for the league. The only problem is that it was pretty hard to read the names on the back, and damn near impossible on the homes (blue outlined in red).

Anybody else see thiswallbulletsjersey2.jpg

I'd like a return to that but I would much rather have an updated modern version of the 70's unis

Is that Corey Freakin' Feldman? 80s star in an 80s jersey. Nice.

that looks nothing like corey feldman

definitely not the best Bullets uni but miles better than anything with Wizards on it. A recent poll in the D.C. area came up with 93% of fans saying they support a name change back to Bullets.Just saying.

Really? where did you hear that? where was that poll? I live in the DC area and most Wizards fans i know dont really care, because they like the team. I mean theyve been the wizards for 13 seasons now, i think it would be awkward to go back to the bullets. And its not like they were that great as the bullets, i mean if they were a respectable franchise as the bullets, then i think there'd be more support for the name change back to the bullets.

They made 4 finals and won a championship as the Bullets...

The Bullets name is never coming back. I refuse to believe that after 9/11, the D.C. Sniper, and Arenas' gun charges, that they would go back to that name. They'd have to be out of their minds to go against their recently passed owners wishes. I'd see it as a disrespectful and downright stupid move.

disrespectful and stupid? Really....I'm sorry but the name Bullets for a basketball team did'nt cause 9/11, the D.C. Sniper or Gilbert Arenas just in case you were unsure of that. As a matter a fact all those things happened after the change to Wizards by the owner, looks like the name change thing did'nt prevent violence from happening all over the world. See this is the real world and people don't say mmmm...Bullets yeah let me go rob this guy or mmm.... Bullets like me go kill this bitch or mmmm... (in Arabic)Bullets let me go blow up the WTC. C'mon man gimme a break it's the name of a team signifying speed, you know faster than a speeding bullet.Bullets forever.

IBTL!

No, but seriously jimbojohnny56...

Spelling and grammar mistakes aside, you are missing the point. Nobody is saying the name caused those events, they are saying those events make it impossible to go back to that name. It's all about context. You need to be aware of the culture and the world around you when making decisions like this. Those things happened, and now you can't really go back to a violent sounding name. It doesn't matter if you can argue that it technically isn't violent, the fact that you need to make a case for it means that it's too close. Not everyone will make that connection immediately, or maybe ever, unless you put under the logo, "Not, like, gun bullets, but the speed associated with them." Still, that wouldn't work. You need to realize that things happen in our society that change what is acceptable. Just because it was okay 30 years ago(an example) doesn't mean it is okay in today's society. Imagine an expansion team in 1996 trying to go with the name "Oklahoma City Bombers", wouldn't happen. But in 1991? It's a lot more likely. This is just an example to illustrate my point, the two scenarios are not similar.

I'm a Bullets fan from MD and hope it returns as well.

In fact, I still call that team the "Bullets"...some sort of personal protest I guess...but I simply prefer it. The new identity is HORRRRRRRRRIBLE.

Exactly what do Bullets or the team's name have to do with 09/11? In fact, if someone HAD bullets on the plane (secutity guard, pilot...) it would never have happened.

This is the kind of nonsensical-PC way of thinking that is disrespectful and downright stupid to me.

I respected Abe Pollin a lot, but the fact is, he's not the owner now. To undo a mistake of his and please the majority of the fan base is far from stupid.

That doesnt mean that they are a respectable franchise, overall. Keep in mind that the championship (the only one) they won was in the late 70's. Thats more than an entire generation away, and they havent done much since. At the time of the name change they had made the playoffs once in the past 9 years. They really werent respected in DC and the city as a whole didnt really care about or oppose the name change. If it were a respectable franchise overall as the bullets i dont think they would have even thought of changing the name. Think about it, when is the last time you saw any other franchise change its name WITHOUT changing cities. Its not often, and thats because most respectable teams dont just "change their name" like that.

Although Bullets had nothing to do with 9/11, it still affected the world's view on violence. The point the previous posters are trying to make is the fact that in today's world, violent nicknames would not be tolerated for any team. It simply just would not be good for political reasons, and we all know how politics can affect sports.

I still fail to see how "bullets" is a violent word whatsoever.

Honestly.

Now if we're going to get all anal and PC-happy...Pirates, Raiders, Buccaneers, Vikings...those are more directly tied to violence than Bullets. In fact, Bullets is closer to a name like Patriots or 76ers in terms of meaning for me, and most rational people.

I believe the team's nickname would not be contested whatsoever if they weren't in Washington D.C., home of bored idiots posing as politicians by day. Gettysburg College retains the name Bullets and no one in that area even considers violence when seeing their team name. Same with the Redskins...their physical proximity to the Supreme Court buildings just encourages people looking to make the newspaper to pretend to be to offended for some press time.
