I'm in California on business and I took a ride out tonight to A's-Giants at the Coliseum, first time I was there.

Yeah, it's dumpy by today's standards. They definitely need a new stadium. That being said though, it was refreshing to finally go to a baseball game where the game was, you know, the main attraction. No fancy restaurants, didn't feel like a mall, you were there to watch the game and only watch the game. Good game (4-2 A's) and had a very enjoyable time.

I'm disappointed that half the stadium left in the 7th and 8th of a 4-2 game. I thought only Dodger fans did that, guess it's a California thing all-together. It was about 50/50 A's/Giants fans but it was too close a game to have door that. Poor job.

Edwin Rodriguez resigned as the Marlins Manager today.

Eleven days ago, they fire the hitting coach, and now Edwin resigns.

They were ten games over .500 then lost 14 out of 15. That only occurred one other time in the last 40 years (2006 Diamondbacks).

Does not help with two starters have ERAs over 6 in Chris Volstad (6.07) and Javi Vazques (6.85).

Unless the Marlins made the playoffs, I didn't think that Edwin would have been Opening Day manager for them in the new stadium.

I agree with you on part, and disagree with you on another part. Yes, I agree that the Coliseum, while old, is still a great baseball venue. They have no real need for a new park unless they insist on all the gimmicks. Overall it's still a safe and relatively clean facility.

I'll disagree with you on one aspect though, only Dodgers fans regularly leave games early. Unless it's an absolute blowout, Giants games, and even most Angels games, are packed untill the last pitch. A lot of people decide to leave A's Giants games at the Coliseum early because of how many more people are at the games due to both markets being so close. Don't let the attendance numbers at the Coliseum be a representation of pro baseball in the state. Attendance numbers in Oakland have always been a bit weird and in many ways kind of dreadful. The bay area is Giants territory and unfortunately, Oakland is holding on to that market by the threads. That's why I feel that one way or another, with all of the feasibility issues and territorial problems the A's have run into, they'll end up in Sacramento one way or another.

I think it was less of a "fandom" issue and more of an issue of time and logistics. Hard for me to believe, but A's gameday parking is $17, if you add the west bridge fee for a Giants fan and it is at least $22 for the car not including fuel. A BART trip from most of SF stops is less than $8 round trip per person but trains from the Colisuem run 20-22 minutes apart on weekends.

I think the NBA Finals took the wind out of their sales. This was bound to happen after that stinker Lebron put up.

Selig has rejected the Dodgers/FOX TV deal. I love that if McCourt takes Selig further in court he could challenge the anti-trust law that baseball is exempt from and bring down MLB as we know it.

I don't know if I'd go THAT far. Isn't one of the reasons why baseball is exempt from anti-trust law because they predate the law? I can't see a broke owner who's barely scraping by to make payroll taking down the whole institution.

Giambi hits a 3 run bomb as a DH for the Rockies and Colorado holds on for an 8-7 win against the Tribe.

McKeon's 80 years young.

And with Pat Riley coimg back to babysit coach the Heat next year.... "Don Shula, Where you at?!!"

Jesus christ. He was old when the Marlins won the title back in '03. That was 8 years ago. Guess nobody wants to deal with Jeffrey Loria's crazy ass. Not many people can say they fired the Manager of the Year in the year he won it. That makes it the Marlins fifth managing change in nine years not including Brandon Hyde's tenure.

I can't either. Not when it can be argued that MLB was in fact justified in blocking this move. The move isn't beneficial long term to the Dodgers. Its being done simply because Frank McCourt needs money. That's plain as day. He's probably going to have to sell the team anyway, but if he sold the broadcast rights at least now he would have something to take home. Now he has nothing.

Frank McCourt might have a case, but it would set a legal precedent if a judge found in his favor, something I don't see happening.

Also doesen't help matters that the IRS is also investigating him and his wife for tax fraud related to the Dodgers. Is a judge really going to set a legal precedent in favor of somebody who can very realistically be bankrupt and in jail within a year? I would find that hard to believe.
