Also, technically shouldn't the stars be on the left? I donno just little things.

Oh also, while I was double checking if it was the left I stumbled upon this gem.

That's better, you should cut down on the stripes though. A little too many.

How would I cut the stripes down while still keeping the Northwestern Stripes

It looks like the outside stripes are outlined in red with a white center...

"Classic" does not mean it gets a free pass for being bad design.
