2013 NHL Off-Season Thread

Recommended Posts

Scott Niedermayer, Brendan Shanahan, Chris Chelios, and Geraldine Heaney have been elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame as players, along with Fred Shero as a builder.

Congrats to all, but especially to Scotty. Just another box to check on his all-time winners checklist. Stanley Cup, Conn Smythe, Norris Trophy, Olympic Gold Medal, Memorial Cup, Memorial Cup MVP, World Junior, World Championship, World Cup, All-Star, number retired in New Jersey, and now a Hall of Famer. Last thing on his player list is retiring his #27 with the Ducks (which will happen, but Teemu has to retire and put #8 there first. The Ducks have said this.), before he starts his coaching/management list as he's an assistant with the Ducks currently. Congrats Scotty.

Heaney's going in as a builder??

Haha oops. I just saw her paired with Shero on a few twitter posts to separate from the NHL players, so I just assumed. I had no idea who she was. I fixed my post.

And Pat Burns still goes O-fer.

People have pointed out his absence immediately after the announcement for the past three years. So many and so much so that it's annoying at this point.

Yes, Pat Burns should be in. He should. But at this point, I don't think he's ever getting it. If he hasn't gotten in by now, he's just not. It sucks, but I think his window for getting the votes has closed.

I wouldn't say that. Oates and Bure had to wait five and six years each before getting in. Three years is hardly the point of no return.

I had no idea either until I looked her up a couple hours ago. Apparently she was on a few Canadian Women's olympic teams, so when I saw your post, I got pretty confused.

... Hopefully guys like Burns and Sergei Makarov get in one of these days.

Chris Chelios becomes the first Wisconsin Badger to get in.

I could be wrong about this, bit I think it also means that Mount Carmel HS in Chicago is the first high school in the country to have alumni that made the HOF in each of the four major sports.

Man, I bet he could have a list of accomplishments half that long and still get in. What a career.

Mighty Ducks of Anaheim (CHL - 2018 Orr Cup Champions) Chicago Rivermen (UBA/WBL - 2014, 2015, 2017 Intercontinental Cup Champions)

King's Own Hexham FC (BIP - 2022 Saint's Cup Champions) Portland Explorers (EFL - Elite Bowl XIX Champions) Real San Diego (UPL) Red Bull Seattle (ULL - 2018, 2019, 2020 Gait Cup Champions) Vancouver Huskies (CL)

They've realigned the teams on the NHL.com Network header based on next year's new "conferences" and it looks really stupid.

Untitled_zps5822e7a9.png

"Where the NHL Gets Hockey"? What does that even mean?

It's not the NHL Network website.

Go to a team website and check out the header that allows you to jump to different team websites.

And Atlanta Thrasher.

Who's going to remember his Atlanta stint? Seriously, the only people who can remember his Thrasher days are hardcore hockey people in general (like some of us on here) and the 200-300 people who tailgated to protest True North to no avail (i.e. diehard Thrasher fans).

And they said the Wolves didn't develop talent for Atlanta. They produced the Thrashers' only Hall of Famer!

I will remember his 7 games with the Thrash more fondly than his days with Montreal, Chicago, and Detroit. I think he should go in as a Thrasher.
