It won't ever be "the best option". Another couple years in the Stadium would be preferable.

They have the money. They'll get it built.

The money is not the hard part.

Navigating the political jungle of NYC politics is.

As the Yankees know full well. And they also know how money makes those problems seem so much smaller.

Do they want to spend a ton of their own cash? Of course not. Insanely rich people don't get or stay rich by spending money they don't have to. But in the end, if that's the way to get it done, they will.

US Soccer has released the format for the 2014 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, along with the schedule for the first two rounds.

Playing the US Open Cup right in the middle of the World Cup.

Yeah, US Soccer really wants the USOC to succeed, right?

Agreed...who's really going to be watching the USOC when the World Cup is going on? Nice job US Soccer :P

On a side note, Cruz Azul won the CONCACAF Champions League on penalty kicks versus Toluca. Still a Mexican dominance in CONCACAF. As well Toluca hit with a fine for taping San Jose training sessions...

Actually, according to the article linked in your post, it was due to the away goals rule. There was no penalty shootout.

Everybody finish your drink.

To be fair, presuming that the games are night games, most of the World Cup games will be finished by that time; while Brazil is on similar time as the US, they are a couple of hours ahead of Eastern time.

According to the FIFA website, the start times for the U.S. World Cup games in sequential order are (in EST/PST form) 6pm/3pm, 6pm/3pm and 12pm/9am. I don't think the U.S. Open games would be that blowed-over if those start times were adjusted to 8:30-9pm EST.

Then again, with so much boiled-over reaction from the USMNT in Brazil (especially if the U.S. loses games), who would think of any of the Open games when people are reacting to what had just happened in South America?

The fundamental issue at play is that the USSF just flat out doesn't care about the USOC and would as well prefer it to be swept under the rug.

There'd be nothing worse from their point-of-view than the Cosmos or another NASL team winning a highly-publicized version of the USOC.

Speaking of domestic cups. This year is the Canadian Championship expanded.

The NASL's Ottawa Fury played Edmonton FC in Ottawa for a scoreless draw on Wednesday. The second leg goes in Edmonton April 30th.

The winner will go on to play Montreal while Toronto will face Vancouver for the semi-final match-ups in in May.

I still think that it being touted as the Canadian Championship or Voyageurs Cup, that ALL Canadian clubs (including USL PDL) should be allowed to play for the Cup. I think it would be good for a club like WSA Winnipeg to be able play at home v TFC. It would draw huge numbers in attendance and a huge media coverage. I'm sorry but the Canadian Championship has been a bit of a joke. Especially with letting a first year club like Ottawa into the competiton when other Canadian clubs like Victoria Highlanders FC, Thunder Bya Chill (both are 2013 PDL Cup Final Four pariticipants), Toronto Lynx, Forest City London, and WSA Winnipeg have been around for five plus years.

Fury were a PDL team for 5 plus years until this year weren't they?

Yes Fury had a PDL club for five years but they weren't eligible to play in the Voyageurs Cup until they went "pro".

If anything, let the PDL teams have a play-in to see who gets in, giving us a 6 team round robin.

I agree with at least a play-in first round for all PDL clubs to either six or eight clubs...

Six is fine. One game each between the three non-MLS clubs, winner on total aggregate moves on to play last season's champion.

I know myself and all Victoria Highlanders FC supporters would be happy to see at least that. Same with other Canadian PDL clubs. If CSA wants the Voyageurs Cup to follow The FA Cup, they need to include the smaller "non-league" clubs...
