Phillies Uniforms?

What I want to know is why the Phillies are so special that they get a thread just for their unis.

Excellent contribution.

Phillies literally means "Philadelphias", there is no need on earth to put the full name on the road unis.

I've never heard anyone ever referred to as a "Phillie".

I've always thought they could pull off a TIgers-style old english P on the chest - kind of like one of their old time jerseys, but with a red cap or some combo of royal and red (like red P, royal sleeve piping or something.)

RGB'd this yesterday, neglected to post it:

Not sure the MLB needs another Old English monogram, but that one's kinda nice.

I think they should go back to maroon, or at least a burgundy. Also, while I don't want powder blue, I think it would look great with a shade slightly lighter than royal blue. Maybe the shade the Devil Rays used in their green era. I really like that lighter blue with maroon, and it wouldn't have to be used fully as a secondary color. Just for highlights here and there, maybe a little bit more than how they currently use blue.

Other than that, I think they need something between their 50's wordmark and today's version. Today's is too clean, but the 50's version is too old. I'd also like to see Philadelphia on the roads, even if they have to go to an arched block font to get it done. I think PHILA on the roads is a terrible idea. I know teams have used it before, but to me it's like a campy relic which might have been done out of necessity at the time. If they can't make the city name work, just stick with Phillies.

Not to quibble, but that Blue the Devil Rays wore was pretty dark:

Yeah, you could barely tell the Rays had blue at all back then. If there was ever a case for use of a color like the Lions' blue, that was it.

Back on topic, the number font could've been better, but on the whole I like the Phillies' uniforms.

So you're saying the team name is equivalent to a team being called the New York New Yorkers.

Good job, Philadelphia. Should have kept the Athletics in town.

They also had real chain stitching instead of today's chain stitch on a patch.

Around here ladies are referred to as chicks, bitches, dimes, hoes, phillies, skanks, whores, twats, broads, sluts, hags, semen receptacles, but never phillies.

Yes, poor editing on my part. Never heard the word Phillie used in any context other than refering to the team.

That was the inspiration for my original post, then botched the edit.

While the Phillies uniforms have maybe gotten a little stale, I really only have one complaint with them.

The treatment of the outline on their script. On their real logo, the "P" simply merges with the "h". But on their uniforms, the "P" is outlined separately from the rest of the script and cuts into the "h" a pretty significant amount due to the thickness of the outline.

Just find that annoying.

Strongly dislike them. Home and away are both failures, the alternate is better but still has problems.

They don't need to be creative to fix the problem though. These uniforms:

With this hat:

Creams with two-tone blue/red cap (faithful 1948 replicas rather than the current modernized versions) and maroon throwbacks can also be used on occasion but the bright red pinstripes should get most home games, including days. You could maybe use a two-tone blue/red of the Wiz Kids hat on the road with blue stars on the jersey but I'd have to see that before I signed off on it. Road uniform must be darker gray, similar to the current Dodgers and Mets roads.
