Cosmic
Stephen A. Smith (rightfully) suspended for one week for comments about "provocation" regarding the Ray Rice incident. It's only one week less than Ray Rice was suspended for actually knocking the woman unconscious.http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/07/29/stephen-a-smith-gets-a-one-week-suspension/
The_Admiral
If you look at it in terms of work days (2 vs. 5), Stephen A. actually got it worse. Don't forget to buy some pink crap from the NFL in October. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
Gothamite
Loathsome beings both, but Smith only got a suspension of 1/52 of his paychecks. The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Now in a handy blog.
The_Admiral
I don't really think Stephen A. Smith is a "loathsome being." He's just a guy who's professionally obnoxious. There's a kernel of truth to the idea that women probably shouldn't throw punches any more than men should. Besides, I'd be more worried about "provoking" other girls: ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

Gothamite
Smith may not be a loathsome being. But he plays one on television and radio. I just don't know if this is a sort of character he plays like "Rush Limbaugh", or if that's how Smith really feels. And I'm not really sure it matters. The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! The_Admiral
There was a piece on Skip Bayless a while ago that detailed how he's a terminally boring guy until he puts in an earpiece with a production assistant feeding him lines, at which time he becomes an insufferable loon. He was pretty decent as a writer in Dallas and Chicago, I believe. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
FiddySicks
Ok so, really. Who even talks about Skip Bayless any more? When was the last time he was even a thing?Kinda scrounging for some low hanging fruit there, dbad. The_Admiral
Ok so, really. Who even talks about Skip Bayless any more? When was the last time he was even a thing?Well, he co-hosts the show Stephen A. Smith just got suspended from. Enough people must watch the show for someone to get suspended for having a bad thought. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

JayMac
OK I can agree with what you said. But I'd go with Stephen Smith, sans the middle initial.

HedleyLamarr
Didn't Ray Rice already have an apology session before? What's he supposed to say this time...."I'm sorry the NFL only suspended me for two games"?

Cosmic
I had only seen Stephen A. Smith for about three minutes before this whole thing started (about six minutes now), and I don't really like him. Just one of those guys that rubs me the wrong way. Still, I can't help but partially blame ESPN for stupidity like this coming out. Maybe it's because I have a hard time believing that people actually believe things like the whole "provocation" thing. The problem is that it takes 30 seconds to say, "Beating women is bad, very bad". That leaves 42 minutes to fill in your hour-long show, so you end up dissecting every possible angle and throwing out whatever comes to mind. Stephen A. Smith was clearly pulling his words out of his ass well before he started talking about "provocation"... he just went too far down a bad road. Still, he should have plenty of practice making stuff up and rambling on, so the onus is on him to not say things so monumentally stupid.

The_Admiral
A real man doesn't hit a woman, but then again a real man doesn't associate with the kind of wack-ass bitch who thinks it's a perfectly good idea to repeatedly throw punches at a guy. You can't lose your crap in such fashion and not expect to be physically subdued. Stephen A. had a sliver of a point in there. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
