FiddySicks
I dunno, I lived all over the city and found that area to be my favorite, anyway. What’s your favorite? FiddySicks
Isn’t Belltown just south of Queen Anne anyway? I do like Ballard, though. Capitol Hill is WAY overrated IMO. My roommates went to Seattle U and I just found CH to be a pain in the ass to get around in. Pioneer Square has some really cool bars. I lived just off of Yesler and 15th (Sir-Mix-A-Lot’s hood) and worked in SoDo so I walked down there quite a bit. I kinda wish I would’ve just stayed there rather than moving to the U District. But I did have some interesting times there with cool people, so it was ok. This is all just makes me miss Seattle On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.) Brian in Boston
Todd Leiweke, CEO of NHL Seattle, has revealed that the expansion hockey team will place its American Hockey League affiliate in either Boise, Idaho or the Palm Springs, California area.Seattle's NHL franchise narrows down location for top affiliate team A Boise-based affiliate would set up shop in the 5,002-seat CenturyLink Arena, currently home to the ECHL's Idaho Steelheads. Meanwhile, a California-based farm-team for NHL Seattle would likely operate out of The Shield at 1 Coyote Way, a proposed 12,000-seat arena that the Coachella Sports & Entertainment Stadium Authority is seeking to build in Palm Desert, 14 miles east of Palm Springs. Still MIGHTY
Palm Desert? What the hell? Here's where that potential Palm Desert arena would be (scheduled to open by 2021, by the way). It'd be between the Classic Club and the 10, and then where it is in relation to the Ontario Reign and San Diego Gulls. | ANA | LAA | LAR | LAL | ASU | CSULB | USMNT | USWNT | LAFC | OCSC | MAN UTD |

But the better question is why Seattle would want a team in a state already with 3 NHL teams and 5 AHL teams in an area a few hours from 2 more NHL teams and another AHL team. The PNW would be a much better idea. If anything VGK would be better served establishing a team in Coachella with SEA getting an existing club. Or let the Roadrunners relocate and partner with VGK when the Coyotes inevitably head to Houston, give San Antonio to Houston, and give the Wolves to STL. The PNW would be a much better idea. While a Boise-based American Hockey League affiliate would be more conveniently located in relation to its NHL Seattle parent-club, its distance from the markets of other AHL Pacific Division opponents would be significant in terms of the time and expense necessary to travel to them for games. Certainly greater than the distance, time, and expense involved in traveling to the markets of divisional opponents from the proposed Coachella Valley arena site. Boise to... Stockton, CA = 604 miles San Jose, CA = 673 miles Loveland, CO = 765 miles Bakersfield, CA = 802 miles Ontario, CA = 827 miles San Diego, CA = 929 miles Tucson, AZ = 1,037 miles The proposed Coachella Valley arena site to... Ontario, CA = 80 miles San Diego, CA = 127 miles Bakersfield, CA = 227 miles Tucson, AZ = 368 miles San Jose, CA = 457 miles Stockton, CA = 459 miles Loveland, CO = 1,036 miles As for the territory of a Coachella Valley-based franchise overlapping with that of the 3 NHL and 5 AHL franchises within California, the NHL clubs in Nevada and Arizona, and the AHL team in Arizona, I'd be shocked if many hockey fans in the Palm Springs/Palm Desert/Indio region - existing or potential - were routinely making the journey to-and-from the games of said existing teams. That said, might the population that descends upon the Coachella Valley in the winter months include enough hockey fans - casual and/or die-hard - to pull in crowds somewhere in the neighborhood of the AHL's overall attendance average of 5,794 fans-per-game? The NHL Seattle brass is likely mulling a decision between whether they want to have more convenient access to minor league players for call-ups, or are more concerned with the wear-and-tear - both on their farmhands and their financial bottom-line - that operating an AHL affiliate in a geographically-isolated market might provide. I know there is an airport in Palm Springs and it does have flights to Seattle via Delta and Alaska (although, I didn't know the extent of their airline carriers until I Googled. I was quite surprised, actually), but how in the world is Palm Springs easier than Boise? Although, I guess the same can be said about Bakersfield to Edmonton or Stockton to Calgary (not to mention Utica to Vancouver). Or SAP Center locker room A -> SAP Center locker room B for that matter. Then again, maybe Seattle can run their AHL team like the Lakers do with their G League club and just have them play in a practice rink with a few hundred bleacher seats.
