Just want to say I'm booing the Pens for not updating the logo to their current vegas gold. The reports all said that their third would "basically be the same" as the Winter Classic style, but I was hoping an update to the current colors on the crest would be implemented.

I dont think they wanted to tamper with an old jersey design. They were probably either going to get a normal third or use the throwbacks, and since the reception on the throwbacks before and after the Winter Classic was so good they then decided to go for them.

I know, and I'm aware that the WC design is extremely popular and lots of people will buy it (lots of people already have), I just hate having a third jersey with a completely different color palette than the home and away. I prefer at least a little consistency in my teams' uniforms.

If it works then leave it.

Look what happended when the other teams (Ottawa, TB, and Atlana) showed consistency in their uniforms.

That's my whole problem with the set. Great colors, nice jersey...not the Pens...not for almost 30 years.

I can direct you to about 20 stores around here that sell "authentic" knock offs that has a vegas gold triangle in the crest.

I think any team can pull off a classic uniform. No need for the rookies to dress like clowns until they become veterans.

Look like you've been there before, boys.

But isn't it silly for cities like Phoenix, Dallas, Anaheim and Nashville to try to pull off the "old-time hockey" vibe?

firstly, i don't see dallas as wearing "retro" inspired uniforms like minnesota, as much as they just wear simple and respectable uniforms. arched-text on the front of a uniform has been by colleges for years, and the rangers in the nhl for a short period of time, so it's not like their home/alternate uniforms are going original-six... and there's nothing at all "traditional" about the collars or front-numbers on the stars uniforms as a whole. i think you're confusing simplicity with retro, which i don't agree with. not every team needs to look like the florida panthers or st. louis blues new uniforms.

secondly, there are only 6 teams in the NHL that have been around longer than the stars, so i think they can pull off a classic look if they want. saying the stars shouldn't wear simple classic uniforms, because they've only been in their current market for 15 years is ridiculous.

should the arizona cardinals have changed uniforms to be less traditional every time they moved to a new city? should the colts have drastically modernized their look when they moved to indy? the raiders in their oakland/los angeles/oakland swaps?

while it's not always the best fairy-tale story, there are many professional sports teams that have rich and interesting histories that are independent of any specific city. as long as the team wants to honor and remember it's past (like the dodgers, cardinals, stars, flames, hornets, and jazz, to name a few), they should be allowed to. i'd hate it if the dallas stars had nothing to do with the minnesota north stars history. i'm lucky that the stars go out of their way to remember their roots. it sure beats teams that try to pretend they're an expansion team (coyotes, okc-nba, avalanche, etc). in my eyes at least.

With the Coyotes, i'd say that is false, they have a wall of History somewhere in the arena with the WHA Jets to the current Coyotes. Also they honor the Jets with the retired numbers of the Jets. The current ownership of the Phoenix Coyotes have always wanted to honor the history of the Coyotes even if that means honoring the Jets as well.

Los Angeles Kings, Ottawa Senators, and St. Louis Blues are "TBD"

So, maybe faint hope that Ottawa didn't go with the rumoured "Sens" on the jerseys? I'm really hoping the updated profile logo they unveiled last year actually you know...appears on a jersey. SENS is just lame.

No, it's confirmed that it'll be "Sens". The guy who posted those logos just didn't have those.

Oh well. At least it's black, not gold.

Frankly, it's silly to think that classic styling should only be afforded to the older franchises. Not sure I understand this line of thinking very well. A design or scheme is free to be used by any team, regardless of history.

So if I want to strut around in a classically tailored Brooks Brothers suit, I can't - because i'm not vintage enough age-wise?

Yeah, but those 6 teams are all 50 years older than the Stars.

Well, it's obviously a matter of opinion, but it's the way I think--the Rangers can rock a lace-up, but it looks a little suspect on somebody like Anaheim. As for your example though; depending on how distinguishingly dated certain features of said suit were, I'd likely think you were putting on a bit of a pose.

Not me.

Vegas gold looks bad enough with the black, it'd wash out completely paired with the powder blue.

Yeesh. Vegas Gold, or as we say up here with the crappy non plasma tv quality picture, "KHAKI". That with the powder blue would have been an abomination.
