  1. Word has it that Indianapolis (D2 GLVC) will be voting at their September 30 meeting on whether or not to move up to Division 1 and FCS football. If the reclassification vote is yes, then they'll move to the Ohio Valley Conference...but if it's no, then they'll move to the Division 2 Great Midwest Athletic Conference.
  2. In theory it could work...in practice, it would be a complicated matter. And this is coming from the guy who always jokes about how the Big East can easily get Loyola by offering DePaul to the A10.
  3. Part of me wonders why the Reading Royals never changed their name or color scheme after ending the Kings affiliation...
  4. The PBLA has officially announced their team names...they make you click several links (the middle one is here), but here they all are. Binghamton Bombers Charlotte Bootleggers Elmira Renegades Hampton Hammerheads New England Chowderheads Syracuse Spark (no "-lemuffins") Trenton Terror Sounds pretty standard (though I look forward to seeing what they come up with for the Bootleggers and Chowderheads), and I see they chose to play it safe for 'Cuse...let's see how this all plays out.
  5. Everyone loves March Madness...except for college football status-quo defenders, it seems.
  6. Slipped under everybody's radar, but last week Campbell announced it was joining the CAA for 2023.
  7. Would this be the gold beveled W hat you're referring to? If so, that is a BEAUTY. I immediately think of the OG Senators' glory days, of the Big Train being on the mound what the Bambino was at the plate...
  8. This is another reason I get scared whenever I hear about the Preds' on-and-off proposed new minor league arena in Clarksville...because I worry that MKE might lose the Admirals (or that they'd be relegated to the ECHL)
  9. The Flames finally unveiled their AHL team's name...and the Calgary Wranglers are back.
  10. The upstart minor league box-lacrosse PBLA has released their "Final Four" name finalists for each team and...hoo boy. Binghamton: Bombers, Bravehearts, Blast, Brawlers Charlotte: Fury, Bootleggers, Goal Diggers, United LAX Elmira: Tilt, Express, Renegades, Huckleberries Hampton: Neptunes, Salty Crabs, Hammerheads, Hooligans New England: Warriors, Rebellion, United LAX, Chowderheads Syracuse: Sasquatch, Revolution, Flow, Sparklemuffins Trenton: Terror, Jersey Shorehounds, Titans, New Jersey Chopper Squad I thought all my submissions were better (Binghamton Batallion, Charlotte Torque, Elmira Storm, Hampton Ironclads, New England Evergreens, Syracuse Express and Trenton Ambush)...but heaven only knows what went into their process. EDIT: It appears "Woke Beavers" has been removed from the Binghamton name-the-team poll, replaced with "Blast."
  11. Moved to the "Professional Lacrosse Changes" thread.
  12. Any updates on Simon Fraser University's new nickname process? They dumped the "Clan" in 2020 and I remember hearing that they were getting a new name this season, but have heard nothing since...
  13. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Wisconsin's great brand confusion-a-rama...Blain's Farm & Fleet and Mills Fleet Farm! (As of lately, Fleet Farm, has changed their logo and dropped the "Mills" though:)
  14. Lookin' sharp...gonan feel like a legit ballpark now! Hopefully, as a gesture of goodwill towards the fans, it can be rebranded as the Rogers Skydome now.
  15. CBS Sports reports that the Big Ten is officially evaluating California, Stanford, Oregon and Washington to determine whether or not to admit them into the conference.
  16. If the Titans are involved, my ideal scenario would be a "franchise swap." Have the Titans reclaim the Houston Oilers name and play at NRG Stadium, then have the Texans move elsewhere.
  17. After further review, it appears Mayor Lightfoot did hint that she might try to lure another NFL team to the city if the Bears left...trouble is, I don't know which NFL team would be looking to relocate at this time (unless we get the Chicago Chargers?), and 32 is a nice, perfectly even number of teams for a league (which is why I hope the MLB and NBA catch up soon). Of course, I could imagine this scenario playing out: "See what Tampa Bay wants for the Rays." "Uh, that's a baseball team, ma'am." "They'll play what I tell 'em to play...for I AM THE MAYOR OF CHICAGO!"
  18. Keep in mind, all this is Mayor Lightfoot's proposal to keep the Bears in Chi city, but the Bears still sound all but committed to Arlington Heights. Perhaps we could see some sort of wackadoo deal reached where the Bears get their Arlington Heights stadium and Chicago gets an expansion or relocated AFC team for the renovated dome...ludicrous as it sounds now, I've learned never to rule out anything with Chi city leadership...
  19. "Orion...Orion is bankrupt now!" -"Weird Al" Yankovic, in his UHF DVD commentary
  20. I still think Milwaukee deserves another chance at the All-Star Game, if nothing else to make up for the 2002 fiasco.
  21. So the million-dollar question is, where does SFA go? They said they're staying WAC for now, but that conference has been a house of cards for about a decade now. Do they try and follow their archrivals to FBS (CUSA or elsewhere?) Do they follow the lead of Lamar and UIW and seek forgiveness from the Southland? Or do they hope against all hope that they can attract more teams to the WAC (possibly more D2 teams seeking to make the jump)?
  22. Latest word has it that one of the options which has been gaining momentum is for the Big 12 and Pac-12's top schools to merge and form a new 16-team conference...but that option could end up leaving six schools out in the cold.
  23. I'm actually going there this weekend for the Women's Football Alliance National Championship...it IS a lovely stadium now. When that Hall of Fame village is complete, it's gonna be somethin' spectacular!
