  1. Hi everyone, Recently I've had the itch to go back and "remaster" a few of my earliest hand-drawn uniform designs, some of which were a humble attempt to continue the fantastic MLB Rivalry face-offs by @Discrim from a few years ago. In true Discrim fashion, some teams will have seemingly disparate home and road uniforms, usually tied together by matching logos and number styles. This was a fun exercise to get inside the unique, twisted mind of Discrim, and I hope I did him justice. First up are the Mariners vs. Padres, AKA the Vedder Cup. What is the Vedder Cup exactly? Well, you can read about it here. Whether or not this one qualifies as a true "rivalry" depends on who you ask. Regardless, I'm pretty happy with how these designs turned out. MARINERS: The Mariners' home set is inspired by the Seattle Steelheads Negro Leagues team, while the away set combines Seattle's powder blue roads from the '70s and '80s with the M's Turn Ahead the Clock unis. PADRES: My original hand-drawn Vedder Cup designs from 2016 had the Padres in navy pins at home. Now that the Padres have since gone back to pins in real life, I took a different approach for my update, combining various elements of San Diego's PCL uniforms while keeping that 2016 navy and gold color scheme. For the road, remember that Ray Kroc, who founded McDonald's, owned the Friars from 1974 until his death in 1984. In the late '70s, McDonald's employee uniforms were brown (well, really more of a reddish color, but stay with me on this) and gold. Therefore, we get a Padres x late 1970s McDonald's uniform. (I suppose that would make the Swinging Friar a Swinging Fryer ). C&C appreciated! Here's a peek at the other rivalry sets I have planned: Battle of the Border: Cubs vs. Brewers Leyland Cup: Tigers vs. Pirates Stocking Series: White Sox vs. Red Sox Gillick Showdown: Blue Jays vs. Phillies
  2. That's pretty cool. Makes me appreciate the designs for what they were a bit more, rather than just assuming Nike randomly pulled some colors out of a hat and went with those.
  3. Apparent leak of this year's Field of Dreams caps:
  4. Thanks, gentlemen! Up next is another classic MLB rivalry identity swap! CARDINALS x 1941 CUBS: I wasn't originally going to tackle the Cards and Cubs, but after the Yankees vs. Red Sox this is probably the oldest and most heated rivalry in MLB history. Just as I did with the White Sox in my first post in this thread, I went back to the quirky uniforms of the 1941-42 Cubs (though this time the road set) for St. Louis. Sleeveless, powder blue zippered jerseys with a white script and numbers...lots of cool stuff happening here. The centered front numbers are a detail I pulled from Chicago's 1972 jerseys. CUBS x 1996 CARDINALS For the Cubs, I put a twist on the Cards' iconic birds-on-the-bat logo by placing two bears playing baseball on a fallen tree. The pitching bear comes from the North Siders' 1934-37 alternate logo and the batting bear from their 1908-12 uniforms. Sand replaces red as the secondary color since red didn't really work with the jersey logo. The script is from their 1994-96 road set. Here's a closer look at the bears-on-a-log logo: C&C appreciated!
  5. Nice work on both the Cubs and Sox! For the Sox, I’d make the wing of the flying sock logo either red or gold to give it a nice pop of color. I might also add front numbers to every jersey (except the weekend alt, of course, though I might move the pant numbers to the other leg to keep the design from looking lopsided) since they help balance the designs and this is something the Sox do anyway. I think in general the rounded number style you used for the Sox would work better for the Cubs because it’s pretty close to the style the North Siders use anyway. For the Sox I’d go with a Tuscan style number font which would go well with the various scripts and logos you used. For the Southside alt, I’d use the pullover style template you used for your Reds home and road sets. The ‘83 style horizontal stripe across the front of the jersey doesn’t quite work on a button down jersey. Speaking of the Reds, they look perfect!
  6. Thanks guys! Up next are the Yankees and Red Sox! RED SOX x 1936 YANKEES The Yankees lay claim to what's probably the most universally recognized uniform in all of professional sports. Though the Red Sox have worn pinstripes before, they've never had a pinstriped uniform with just their "B" logo on the chest. With help from @Victormrey, the jersey/cap logo is a modified version of Boston's 1935-46 cap logo, meant to match the style of the Yankees' iconic "NY" monogram. YANKEES x 1986 RED SOX The Bronx Bombers are done up in the style of Boston's 1980s batting practice pullovers, complete with Tuscan style "YANKEES" script and a non-interlocking cap logo that vaguely resembles the New York Black Yankees.' C&C appreciated as always!
  7. Great idea repurposing the Marlins' look as a Wrigley Field marquee-inspired design for the Cubs. For some reason I think a Chicago flag-based design would work better for the Cubs than the Sox, but on its own the Sox design looks great. Keep up the awesome work!
  8. Not sure if this is supposed to be a compliment or not. It's basically just the '70s Twins with a different script and cap logo. Anyway, up next are the Orioles and Browns! ORIOLES x 1944 BROWNS I tried to give both the Browns and O's distinctive designs, despite the teams sharing a lot of visual DNA. For the Birds, I went with St. Louis' most interesting look, which also happens to be from their lone pennant-winning season. There's a lot here to love, from the solid colored placket to the T-bars to the white crowned cap. The radially arched "ORIOLES" script comes from the clock at Camden Yards, an idea I got from @Paul Lucas. BROWNS x 1969 ORIOLES I reimagined the Browns in the style of the sleeveless 1969 O's. Naturally, Louie the Elf replaces the cartoon bird on the cap. I also inverted the colors of the Orioles' classic sock pattern to emphasize brown over orange. C&C appreciated as always!
  9. Good suggestions. The white belt didn't look good, but gold works nicely: Yeah, I've seen some people point this out. This actually inspired me to try the Padres' set in Wave colors (minus navy): PADRES (WAVE COLORS): And here's a version that uses navy: Let me know what you think!
  10. Yeah, I tend to agree. I think this newest version has too much going on. Up today are the Padres! PADRES: Very minor tweaks for the Friars, as I really love what they did with their set. I made the bill of the cap pink for better color balance and modified the back numbers to match the script--bicolor with a yellow drop shadow. I also worked up a fauxback design: PADRES 1979: The Padres' 1979 raglan-sleeved look lent itself well to a design with contrasting colored sleeves. Everything else is pretty straightforward. No drop shadows, as that wouldn't be very 1970s-80s-ish. Next, for the more traditional-minded uni fans, here's the Padres set in more conservative colors: PADRES (in blue): This one's a simple color swap of the City Connect's seafoam green and pink for the navy and ocean blue from the Padres' 2004-11 look, while keeping athletic gold instead of sand. Lastly, here's a mashup of sorts--the Marlins in the style of the Padres' City Connect design: MARLINS x PADRES CITY CONNECT: Many have (probably correctly) observed that the Pads' City Connect colors feel more Miami than they do San Diego, so that's what I did here. I kept the basic design of San Diego's set but replaced the Friars' scripts, logos and numbers with Miami's. I also traded yellow for black since the Marlins apparently always need to incorporate black into anything they wear. And with palm trees also being prevalent in Miami, I didn't need to change the sock design at all! C&C appreciated as always!
  11. Like the thick stripes on the Angels' City Connect left sleeves, the Padres' contrasting sleeves are fun. I wish more teams did stuff like that to give their uniforms personality.
  12. If the Padres hadn't gone back to brown and gold a few years ago, these uniforms would be by far the most interesting things they had worn since the early 2000s. I'll reserve judgement until we see the cap, but so far I'm a big fan.
  13. Whimsical, that's the right word for it! The "Nationaux" idea is a good suggestion. I'll think about it for a future update. Up today are the Twins and Senators! TWINS x 1956 SENATORS The Twins are depicted in the pinstriped, zippered style of the 1956-58 Washington Senators. Gone is the "TC" monogram, replaced by the "M" logo, rendered in a 3-D style (with matching block numbers) courtesy of @Carolingian Steamroller. I'm normally not a big fan of the Twins' use of Kasota gold, but I decided to incorporate it here to distinguish the design from my countless other navy & red team concepts. SENATORS x 1973 TWINS This one is pretty straightforward. I dropped the Senators' 1959-60 home script onto the Twins' 1970s powder blue threads (opting for a traditional button down uniform as opposed to a pullover/sansabelt style, however). The Nationals' "W" cap logo goes unchanged. C&C appreciated! I have a few teams left to post before wrapping up the series.
  14. D-Backs - I really like the new diamond emblem but I think it would be more eye catching if you incorporated at least one another color in addition to red and copper. Hammers - Not entirely sold on the placement of the hammer but I like the idea of it being woven into the script, similar to the birds and bat with the Cardinals. The diamond logo is very sharp! Love the "1871" inclusion. Keep it up!
  15. It's been a little while, but up next are the Nationals and Expos! NATIONALS x 2004 EXPOS Since I've done the Nats in the the powder blue, racing striped style of the Expos for a previous series, I wanted to try something different this time around, focusing instead on the pinstriped look they used from the mid '90s up until relocation in 2004. I used the logo of the Winnipeg Whips (former AAA affiliate of the Expos) for the cap logo and also fashioned it into a new roundel design for the sleeve. Big thanks to @Carolingian Steamroller for lending me his "Nats" script from his MLB 2020 series. EXPOS x 2005 NATIONALS The Expos are modeled after the present day Nationals while keeping blue as the dominant color. The Montreal script "M" used for the jersey and cap is a little wonky, so if someone has a better suggestion please let me know. Powder blue beveling on the numbers alludes to the Expos' old road uniforms. C&C appreciated!
  16. How about front numbers on the gold alt since they’re on the other three jerseys in the set? Other than that the A’s are perfection.
  17. Try adding a white outline to the logo, player name and numbers on the periwinkle alt; I think it would help everything pop much more. And maybe a new hat design to go with that alt, one that incorporates periwinkle? Keep up the good work!
  18. Ok, so here's what I came up with: BREWERS (@EBrooks's version): - New "Brew Crew" script resembling the Summerfest marquee (I used a font called Happy Time) - Subtle brick pattern added to the numbers - Barley/wheat pattern added to the sleeves, pants & socks courtesy of @MJD7 and his 2017 MLB Redesign Series. - Allen-Bradley clockface cap logo with the Brewers' block "M" at the center. Here's a closer look at that logo: Let me know what you think!
