As a Canes fan and a NIKE fan, I'm thinking that Adidas is trying too hard already. Giving out custom shoes (that all suck) to alumni that wore Nike stuff. The current set (is it current anymore) wasn't great and needed a few tweaks, but it was pretty solid compared to their last few sets. The custom shoes used the "canes" font so I assume that will stay (or with a minor tweak). The U equipment twitter said Adidas takes over in September '15 for 12 years...so who outfits the football team in August?

Nothing gives a shoe design swagger like writing the word "swagger" in capital letters across the upper.

In the Miami Vice font, too. How original.

Swiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing and a miss.

I dunno if it's the exact "Miami Vice" font, but it's definitely an art deco font, and the art deco movement is associated with the city of Miami in other ways.

I'm assuming that was probably a mis statement. Adidas takes over ASU's contract in July. I'd assume it's probably the same for Miami.

It really depends on the contract language. Each contract with each school could be dated differently based on calendar year, academic year, or even athletic year (e.g. cws runs after school gets out). Ideally you'd want to switch over the day after the athletic season ends so there's no overlap. Also all contracts are negotiable and can be amended if both parties are willing.

Snoop Dogg/Lion(n?), apparently an endorser of adidas, posted this to Instagram.

:(

Like Dan Lebatard's producer said, "Can't think of a better symbol for the last decade of Canes football than going from Nike to Adidas." This sucks.

Tentative opening day for football is September 5. I haven't seen schedules for any other sports, so it's likely none of them start before September 1. Even with the switch, the teams might have access to footwear and other non-uniform-related gear during the summer practices.

Good lord that looks like a DIY project if I've ever seen one. The numbers look like they are cutouts from a hefty bag.

They better not put The U on the front.

The NCAA probably wouldn't even allow that, thank God. I still remember the Baylor basketball uniform that got banned last season and the reason given was that you can only have the school name or team name on a jersey. I'm sure the same rules would apply to football.

Louisville has worn The Ville and Marshall has worn The Herd. Maybe they didn't wear them this year but I know they have in the past.

Whatever happens, I'm eagerly awaiting to see how this train wreck turns out. Somehow I'm not anticipating anything even remotely traditional or conservative.

I think the rule changed before this past offseason. Mississippi State wore "Hail State" on the front in the 2013 Egg Bowl, but they were forced to replace "Hail State" with "Mississippi State" on the DWS 100 jersey in 2014. I'm pretty sure "The U" would be outlawed.

Also, remember the "Anchor Down" debocale for Vanderbilt. Though that was on the nameplate.

Competition seasons in women's soccer and volleyball begin the last two weeks of August.

Something will have to be worked out to move the effective date up.

Why are you being condescending about it? Yes I am looking at the same shoe. Someone else said it may not be the same exact font, but it's close.

Google 'Miami Vice font'. It's not that far off.

the miami vice font is essentially a generic miami font as art deco typography is abundant throughout the city
