Padres have their first cycle in club history thanks to Matt Kemp

They've famously never had a no-hitter, but I didn't know they hadn't ever had a cycle either.

What is it about San Diego?

Blue Jays big timing themselves... I'd hope this rut smacks them up proper.

I dunno, but that it took a recent LA Dodger star to earn that stat in his first year with them makes me laugh.

I feel bad for the Red Sox this year. They could have won the 2015 WS, and they got Sandoval, and the rest, but they were horrible on pitching.

As a fan of the Red Sox, I can tell you that they couldn't win the Series this year. They got some offensive upgrades but the pitching was never as good as they wanted. They lack a true number 1 and 2 starter, you can't make a run at a wild card with a rotation made out of 4th and 5th starters and suspect bullpen.

I would hope that they make a run at Greinke if he ops out.

Been wondering that myself. But that said, a benefit of being the worst statistical team in baseball, pedestrian achievements get celebrated far more often.

I have to admit that I had no idea the Padres have never had a no-no.

Any other teams (maybe the newer teams)?

FAKE EDIT: Looks like all franchises have had no - hitters except the Padres. Weird.

Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse."

And the Padres and Marlins were the only teams left with no cycles until this weekend. Now the Marlins are the last with that dubious honor. However the Marlins will have to go without for almost another 25 seasons to catch the Padres who went 47 seasons, 7443 games, with no cycle.

And as you said, the Padres remain alone as the only franchise to have no no-hitter to date at 47 seasons and counting. They still have a couple of years go to before they catch the Mets overall who went 50 years with no no-hitter until 2012 and who hold the record for longest drought from foundation to the no-hitter. And of course the Padres are the third oldest MLB team to have no World Series championships to their name.

What a pleasure it is to watch the Giants play the Cardinals again. Such a classic matchup - the heart of the National League vs. its soul. We as baseball fans should be so lucky as to witness another playoff series between these two pillars.

First you got to get into the playoffs...

Today, we are all part of the Cardinals Giants rivalry.

The no-hitter and cycle things are kind of anomalies. You've probably had guys get two homers and two doubles, which is better than the cycle...And the no-hitter thing is just sort of a random thing too...I'd be a little frustrated as a fan but it really does not mean much.

(the world series thing, yeah...I am a Vikings fan...I feel you)
