Sodboy13
The IHL Wolves started wearing a sponsor patch in 1996 or '97. Some ECHL teams wear a sponsor across their entire lower back - I know Bakersfield does, and Toledo has a sponsor patch on the rear hem. This is far, far from being anything new in minor league sports. smzimbabwe
The Alaska Aces have been doing this for years, with a regular sponsor for the team on the jersey, and each individual player has a sponsor logo about the size of their name underneath the number on the back. Back when I worked for the Aces, there would be a contest among the players to see who would get sponsored by Mr. Prime Beef, and have that on the back of his jersey... mfoster
Holy crap, is that James Reimer?Boy, he really did start from the bottom. You're much more likely to make it to the NHL out of the ECHL as a goalie than anything else, because there's only three players in front of you - the NHL team's backup and their AHL tandem. I'd throw enforcers into this as well, but that trend has been on the wane over the last 10-15 years as the role of that player type has dwindled.
