PaperThin
Awesome logo, but those eyes are just too small.
SiLeNt WaVe
The stand alone bear head is a downgrade IMO. Their previous standalone was just fine.
Avenger
A much more mature mark than what they had. Certainly better executed. I like it.
GeauxColonels
Soooooooooooooo much better. The eyes ARE kind of small, but still much better than previous.
SiLeNt WaVe
Someone I showed it to said it resembles a dog instead of a bear. And now I can't unsee it.
rtrich11
I agree that it's nice and will give the school more cred. (To the eye.)The font is custom, but based on another. Was it Colossalis? cafepress.com/artbyrichards

SSmith48
THANK YOU UNC!While I really wasn't realizing how bad and unproductive the last logo was, the upgrade does give a nice refresh to a struggling program. Finally, a Colorado college that realized that it was time for an upgrade. Visit my website at SSmith Designs (google.com)
jaha32
Major upgrade. This just shows how important lettering is to a logo. The old lettering was awkward, had an overly thin outline, and it was full of little gaps and tension points.Although the eyes are small, it seems accurate since bears' eyes are small in comparison to their whole head. Brian in Boston
Going forward in this thread, let's simply share our own opinions of the University of Northern Colorado's new athletic marks. There is no need to take shots at the opinions of other community-members while doing so. To clarify, the topic of discussion in this thread should be the new athletic marks unveiled by the University of Northern Colorado, NOT the opinions of other community-members regarding said marks.Thank you. hugevolsfan
I like this logo a lot I do not see a dog. The only thing that bothers me is the shading at the top of the forehead looks a little too much. I love the font. My Fictional Football League Version 3 My Fictional Football Leagues WebsiteMy Church Website
MJWalker45
It's missing the eye brows that makes it look more aggressive. Is there anything else attached to the changeover?
tajmccall
The juxtaposition of realistic proportions with modern shading/technique is a bit jarring, but separately the elements are better. I think as presented in the original post the total composition seems a little lazy. You should introduce an original typeface by making one that both meshes with your primary logo and is good enough to stand alone by itself. the_grateful_ted
If this eyes were just a bit bigger this would be a perfect upgrade! I'm looking forward to see how this applies to their uniforms

Torch said they wanted to keep the eyes small because it began to look like a dog when the eyes were too large. but just taking the shot into PS and increasing the eyes' size slightly, it looked a lot better to me. i like the typeface a lot though. aesthetically, there isn't a perfect unity here. the long curves and sharp points in the bear are not found within the letter forms, but i like that the personality of the typeface pairs well with a bear's attributes; think: strength, power, large in size. in this sense, i think it works even better than if the type had more in common with the look of the bear logo. i think the attitude and visual communication of the whole package is really good.
