They can schedule A's games when the RiverCats aren't in town You've got that backwards. The Triple-A team will need to schedule around the MLB team. Since Triple-A doesn't play on Mondays, just (routinely) Tuesday to Sunday, it will require a re-formatting of the schedule. 2 Quote It's where I sit. As a NHL fan I find it annoying that the Sharks play in San Jose instead of the "real" Bay Area. If only they could move to the Oakland Arena. Sigh. That would give Oakland a major league presence once again.

Walk-Off
1 hour ago, FrutigerAero said: (what I am about to say should not be taken as some sort of defense of fisher, et al) Oakland government's propaganda about this whole situation has been funny to me and crazy how many people are swallowing what they're putting out. They have been remarkably unserious about the whole thing. An example of this is the deal they just offered to the A's, which included a stipulation that they would be given an expansion team... a thing that the Athletics or John Fisher have no power to give them. While reports suggest that the main sticking point in negotiations with Oakland was the drastic increase in rent ($97 million for a maximum-five-year lease extension, later revised to $60 million for a three-year lease extension) that the A's would have needed to pay to stay at the Coliseum beyond this year, I suspect that the Oakland government ruined any chance of a deal also through its insistence that MLB (a) guarantee the city a window of opportunity for an expansion team, (b) require the A's to leave behind their nickname and colors, or (c) force a sale of the team to an ownership committed to keeping the franchise in Oakland. Even if John Fisher were willing to accept Oakland's terms, the MLB commissioner's office could have pressed Fisher into backing off from an agreement with Oakland due to the demands that the city was making upon MLB as a whole.

Seems like the sort of community where lower-league soccer could thrive, especially with the MLS offering being a moribund franchise out where it is. I’ve thought about this, and while I wish the city could’ve demanded that they changed their name to the Sacramento RiverCats (I get that it’s a crazy and unreasonable idea), them playing a game or two in RiverCats “Throwbacks” would be close enough, and would fulfill one of my oldest sports fantasies. 1 Quote On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.) Moving north (i.e., away from Vegas) into a 14,000-seat stadium to play in a city of people that will probably be Giants fans after this shakes out is bad enough. But for three years? Will anyone even remember this franchise when they get to Vegas? If I lived in Sacramento, I'd definitely go to some games. The A's may be the A's but they'll have opponents worth watching. But it would not endear me to the team. It would just be a temporary thing to do for three summers. All of this is a bad look, including the fact that they can't play in a temporary setting in their new city because their new city is too hot to play outdoor baseball in. Most of the people I know in Sac are already Giants fans and have been that way for at least the last 15 years or so. It's also arguably too hot to play outdoor baseball in their soon-to-be temporary home. Players are going to love playing in 115 on a Sunday afternoon in August in Sacramento. How about this (not serious). We dissolve the Athletics. A different AAA team every year gets a turn to be a "major league" team. RiverCats are first up.

bosrs1
8 hours ago, FiddySicks said: Gross. We don’t want them. All this is going to do is up the long term viability of the RiverCats. I can’t see them sticking around during this stretch to try and directly compete with a MLB team who shares their field. I’m not even sure the league would allow that, as the RiverCats not only can but absolutely would outdraw the A’s the vast majority of those three years. They’re using this as a “trial run for a MLB team in Sac” and I’m sorry but lol what? They couldn’t even get the soccer team off of the ground and now that’s completely out of reach because of the $500 million expansion fee. And now they want to try and pivot to MLB expansion? sure, Sacramento. This whole thing is a terribly half baked idea put out by the two dumbest sports ownership groups (Kings and A’s) in the state of California. The Rivercats are who invited them. This won’t screw the Rivercats long term. Heck this is a back door way for Sac to make a run at the A’s when Vegas inevitably fails to materialize.

Then Sacramento is going to also be stuck with a huge mess. Quote On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.) Fowler2
If Vegas fails to materialize: A 35,000 seat retractable roof park in Sacramento, built next to Sutter Health Park (which would be demolished). Vivek Ranadive luring his old buddy Joe Lacob to buy in. Just a vivid thought. I see that old Arco Arco Arena II (Sleep Train Pavilion) has been demolished and the land (including the old baseball cement slab/swamp pond) will be turned into a hospital.
