dfwabel
Ah the good 'ol daysAnd full of steroids. If approved by both the city and county, which it still needs to be, this extension is pretty much symbolic.I'm talking about how nice the stadium used to be and the great view of the Oakland hills. The Oakland Hills...which turn GAP khaki in early April. Heck, they are a fire alert now. To All: While Lew Wolff is the voice of the A's, John Fisher is the $$$ behind the team and majority owner. The same thing goes with another Coliseum Complex team, the Golden State Warriors...Joe Lacob is the voice...Peter Guber is the $$$.
Gothamite
No. No. Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo. I'm not even an A's fan. Noooooooooooo. How could they do such a dreadful thing?1. They don't have much choice. The only other option they want is San Jose, which they can't have. 2. The extension reportedly contains a clause allowing them to leave early if they can secure a new ballpark elsewhere, so why not sign it? Quote The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Selig likes it, but the Oakland City Council has been pro-Raider in the past. Just see what JPA co-chair, Larry Reid said:"We were all surprised to read the comments made by Mr. Wolff and certainly by Commissioner Selig because we're still in negotiations with the A's," Reid said. "We were waiting to see how that meeting went tomorrow. We want to make sure we do everything we can to keep the A's within the city, but it's got to be a lease agreement that's in the best interest of both the residents of Alameda County and certainly the residents of the city of Oakland."Fans should not exhale just yet, but you know, we're getting close," he added. There will be a Raider group and an A's Group at every city and county meeting to talk about the lease(s). This is far from over since both Oakland, Alameda County, and even San Jose* really don't have $$$ or bonds to build a new stadium. *-Those who think San Jose has cash happy to build Cisco Field...you are wrong. :censored:, SJ has been under staffed for police and fire since 2005. Partly because of pensions.

I didn't realise part two.Well, that's good for the interim and it's great that the clause is there in case this gets sorted out (hopefully within a few years, but probably not). Just out of curiosity, do the Rays also have a clause allowing them to leave early if they find a new place elsewhere in their Trop lease (the one place in the MLB that's probably worse than the Mausoleum)? dfwabel
Today, the Oakland City Council's four members who arend one the Colisuem Board didn't show up to the meeting. As a result, there wasn't a quorum and there was no action taken one the lease agreement. http://www.mercurynews.com/athletics/ci_26049492/still-no-lease-oakland-and-alameda-county-leaders

CubsFanBudMan
From Field of Schemes today:...everyone has good reason to be behaving like morons, because there's no easy resolution to the A's situation that will benefit Wolff, Davis, Oakland, and MLB. Or as I put it in SoE, this is an insanely complicated multilateral game of chicken, so don't hold your breath waiting for everyone to figure out who's holding who hostage. Rays
insted of san jose, why can´t they just build a new ballpark in oakland ?Who, exactly, do you expect to pay for a new park?well, can´t the city and some companys who get great advertising space in the new park get together and find the money ? .They did in Miami, and they have zero spectators compared to the popular A´s
Gothamite
If only it was so easy. No team would ever want for a shiny new park.Funny you should mention Miami - that was a terrible deal for the city, so much so that it may make future deals with other cities that much harder.
