Okay, they're acting like Tampa Bay actually scheduled the hurricane... The Yankees need to stop complaining about Tampa Bay missing a game because of circumstances beyond their power and start worrying about Boston, who is ever-so-slowly creeping up on them

This is a case of the Yankees trying to get a win by any means necesary. They are really feeling the heat. It must be hard for them to have Kevin Brown out with a broken arm, Esteban Loaiza becoming a bust and the Red Sox on a winning streak. Hard for them, great for us. Boys and Girls lets watch Uncle George blow up again.

"Today, 3 days after the regular season is over..MLB Commisioner Bud Selig has announced that the Boston Red Sox, who won the American Leage, East Division by 3 games, have been disqualified.

Mr. Selig did not give a reason as to why the Red Sox were disqualified.

The team that finished second in that division, the New York Yankees, automatically are given the 'Pennant' and are scheduled to start the playoffs.

Boston Spokesman John Everyman says that they have no idea as to why they were disqualified."

Selig: Mmmmm...money...

The Devil Rays were told to leave Tampa on Friday, and again on Saturday. The Yankees, with the fans' best interest in mind, had scheduled an old fashioned Labor Day single-admission double header and wanted to play it. Tampa, rightfully so in my opinion but against orders from Major League Baseball, refused to leave until yesterday so that the players and personnel could be with their families during the hurricane. The Yankees moved the first game back from 1 P.M. to 3 P.M. and now it started at 7 P.M. and there will no longer be that single-admission double header. Instead, the Yankees may have to play the last game of the season on the off-day before the playoffs, burning one of their best starting pitchers on a regular season game against Tampa Bay. Is this fair to them?

Look at all the facts before bashing the Yankees. Tampa Bay's refusal to leave when ordered (regardless of its merit) has put the Yankees in a bad position for their pennant race. They're right in their request for a forfeit, and MLB is right in their refusal to grant it. It would be irresponsible for the Yankees' front office to not inquire and try to spare their team that last day of the season game against Tampa Bay.

Hey it's a hurricane--real life!!!

Not some game they get overpaid for...

The Yankees should show compassion...

Moving the game back to 3 P.M. and then 7 P.M. isn't showing compassion?

I'm sorry but Tampa Bay could've left earlier, in fact they were ordered to, and didn't. The Yankees are in a pennant race and deserve to play their home schedule as they originally planned. The Red Sox front office forced the Yankees to play a game on a rain-soaked field back in July after the umpires had declared it a rain-out. The Yankees had been on the bus, on their way back to the airport, and were ordered to turn around because the home team (in this case the Red Sox) wanted to play, so that they would gain any advantage they could. This is somewhat analogous to today's situation in the sense that the home team should be able to play the games as scheduled, provided that the games are possible. Tampa Bay could've been in New York for two days beforehand, and therefore the games were possible.

The Yankees' players (and this Yankees' fan) had no problem with Tampa Bay's delay because they empathized with the players wanting to be with their families. The Yankees' front office people, however, are specifically there to look out for the best competitive interest for their team, and that's what they're doing.

Yes, Tampa Bay did what was ultimately more important and morally right by staying with their families. But one can argue that to prove that family is more important than some game, they should have no problem "losing" that one game, especially when they're not even in a pennant race anyway.

sure its a loss for the devil rays...which doesn't matter.

But its a win for the Yankees, which really could matter as close as the race is now.

...which really could matter as close as the race is now.

And THAT is why it is unfair for the Yankees to not be able to play their home schedule the way that it was made. And THAT is why it is unfair to force the Yankees to play a game on the last off-day of the season before the playoffs. The Yankees are in a pennant race and every other team in baseball (including AND especially the Red Sox) get to play their home schedule as scheduled, weather permitting. But because Tampa Bay felt the need to stay in Florida, for non-baseball-related reasons, the Yankees aren't being given that right (that's right, not luxury, but RIGHT) and that is unfair, and precisely why the front office is requesting a forfeit.

I am so loving that the cry-baby, wimpy bitch Yankees are the only team in 30 years to demand a forfeit due to natural disaster. It shows their true colors as greedy, win-at-all-costs, we-dont-care-about-the-baseball-just-the-money, selfish, ignorant bastards.

THIS, new yawkers, is why the entire rest of the world despises your home team.

For they are evil.

weather permitting.

ummm...hurricane.

Tell the Cubs and Marlins who are gonna have to more than likely play 3 double headers and they are fighting just to be in the playoffs how unfair it is. Haven't heard too much coming out of Chicago. "The games should have been moved to Chicago...," "We demand forfiets from the Marlins cause they don't have a dome..."

Sure its a slightly different situation. Ask Nitroseed if he would have wanted to leave his family behind to play in a baseball game. Or anyone from florida for that matter.

Nate... first off... There's baseball, which is on one level, and then there's family, which is on a completely different and far more important level. If the situation was the exact opposite, how do you think the Yankees and Steinbrenner would respond to being told to leave their families in a situation similar to that of Tampa's and go play a baseball game? I guarentee you they wouldn't accept a loss in that situation, so why should they be rewarded a victory? Oh shame, the Yankees fans were screwed out of the possiblity of going to two games for the price of one. Could be worse, they could be stuck in a storm which has already caused 10 deaths.

And the Yankees have to use one of their better pitchers on an off day before the playoffs now to play the... Devil Rays? First off, the Yankees would not need one of their 'best starting pitchers' to play the Devil Rays, and second off, their 'best starting pitchers' suck anyway. They would not be in this situation if one of their best off-season acquisitions hadn't broken his hand by punching a wall.

This is just a case of the Red Sox finally having gotten into the Yankees heads as opposed to it being the other way around.

Stupid, greedy Yankees.

Boy everyone just looks to jump on the Yankees for whatever reason and not look at the facts.

The Yankees were correct in asking for a forfiet, because that is what the MLB rule book says. And MLB was correct in denying that. If it happened the other way around the Devil Rays would asking for a forfiet.

It is also funny how people are calling the Yankees greedy right now. Because MLB denied the Yankees request the Yankees will make more money. Had a forfiet been awarded then the Yankees wouldn't have that extra home game to sell tickets for. Yesterday was a one admission double-header.

My question is if the Devil Rays were at tropicana field at 8 and didn't leave untill 1, what did they do for those 5 hours. Why couldn't they leave earlier and make it on time?

Anyway that's beside the point. I'm a Yankee fan and am glad MLB denied the Yankees request, I rather see it decided on the field. But look at the facts before jumping on the Yankees.
