2022 NFL regular season through Super Bowl LVII

I know that there isn’t a single idea that isn’t going to anger a lot of people and I fully understand not resuming the game and all, but did all of the ideas that have been floated need to be so stupid? Must be the dissonance when trying to apply equity to competition.

Since they're not going to play the game, if KC and Buffalo both win this week, then they should award Buffalo the bye based on having the same losses and having won the head-to-head matchup.  Since they're not going to have the same opportunity to win 14 games, it seems reasonable to give them the 1 seed.

The rest of it is much tougher.

Do we know if the Bills are even going to take the field this weekend?

Also seeing fans clamor for an 8th playoff team in the AFC because the BUF-CIN game was scratched.

Huh?

Why?

What does that solve?

how does the MLB do it (if a team plays one less game).

In Major League Baseball, they make up the game if it impacts the standings. (Well, at least they did when finishing in first place meant something.)

The only time that a league or a division was decided by a half a game was in 1972, when the Tigers finished a half a game ahead of the Red Sox in the AL East. This is on account of a decision that was made at the beginning of the season, by which it was decided that no games that had been lost to the strike that took place in the season's first week would be made up, no matter what. However, rainouts  from later in the season would have been made up, if those games had an impact on a division title.

To me it seems both fairest and most practical to call this Bills-Bengals game a draw — not a no contest, but a tie, which goes into the statistics as half a win and half a loss.

Of all the bad ideas we've seen so far, that one is in the running for the worst. It punishes the two teams that were supposed to get a bye and it rewards two teams that have no business being in the playoffs in the first place.

At the risk of sounding really callous and possibly upsetting people, I almost feel like the league wouldn’t be too out of pocket to award the win to the Bengals. They had the lead when this whole thing went down, and it was a player in the Bills that had this issue. I know that’s not an ideal solution, and I’m sure that’s going to upset some people (it kind of upsets me even thinking it), but I’m sort of at a loss on what else to do here that’s not going to throw the entire playoffs into chaos. It’s obviously much less important than what he’s going through, but it is still important.

Nah. If the Bills knew the game was going to be called after 7 minutes, they would have gone for a TD on their first possession.

Thirty years ago, this is exactly what the league would've ruled.

And it doesn't matter anyway, since they've got their new neutral-site solution.

It's probably the best way to resolve the #1 seed issue, all else equal. But still, sucks that the Bills are unlikely to finally host the AFC CG. That's off the table now, and boy could the city have used a lift.

I kind of think that’s why the idea even came into my mind. It doesn’t feel like a solution similar to that would be crazy unprecedented (at least, in the context of an unprecedented situation) with the NFL.

Oh boy. What a mess

Doesn't account for a team losing out on a shot at the bye week.  KC still presumably profits from this situation.  Also really screws fans of both teams in the AFCCG since it's unlikely that many would be able to drop everything and go to Detroit or Indy or wherever they play.  It could be a cool college vibe, or it could be pretty sterile.

I don't really have a better solution other than maybe flipping a coin for home field.  And I still think that if KC and BUF finish with 3 losses each, BUF should get #1.
