Crystal Dunn's husband and others fired by the Thorns. Pierre Sobrier gave players medicine with codeine in it prior to a game and a female coach kissed a player on the back of the neck during the championship celebration.

"In the case of the medication containing codeine, it was administered to two players including one without informed consent, the league found.

“Soubrier was found to have administered the controlled substance to the players on multiple occasions without a prescription and physician supervision which is a violation of federal and state laws and league policy,” the league’s investigative report reads. “Further, Soubrier administered the medication to one of the players without her informed consent.”

To no ones surprise, LAFC announced their head coach and introduced their new MLS Next Pro club LAFC 2. Enrique Duran will be the head coach. He coached the Las Vegas Light, who were LAFCs affiliate last season in the USL Championship. The team will play most of their games at Titan Stadium in Fullerton. Only Charlotte hasnt revealed their MLS Next Pro club for 2023. Montreal and DC do not have clubs in MLS Next Pro. Montreal has their team in the Première Ligue de Soccer du Québec as the CF Montreal Reserve. DCs club Loudoun United was originally going to join MLSNP but a legal issue is keeping them in the USL Championship for 2023.

Claudio Reyna out at Austin FC as general manager, staying on as a technical advisor.

I assume "technical advisor" is some code for "we keep paying him to avoid any further legal messes until the contract is over". Have seen comments how he'll never work in American soccer again, which is ridiculous. He's successfully fused the two archetypes that have run the federation forever -- the World Cup Pedigreed Ex-player with the Toxic Unhinged Soccer Dad/Youth Coach. Funny, then, that his kid might be the future.

Also saw that Austin has made Josh Wolff their interim Chief Soccer Officer, continuing the thread of bizarro job titles. Who let the consultants in?

$50 million expansion fees is absolutely crazy growth for NWSL. Speaks to how well the business side has figured things out, even if they still haven't solved the nonstop scandals on the sporting side.

Bay Area team seems like a lock for the Earthquakes stadium in San Jose. I'm a little shocked Boston's getting a team, and that people are willing to invest so much money in said team, when the old problem of where to play pro soccer in Boston remains severely unsolved. As far as I know, neither team has any involvement from the MLS teams in the same markets, so this will cost some people so, so much money to get off the ground -- I guess it's a big bet on progressive/filthy rich markets.

From the SF Chronicle:

The Bay Area group, headed by former players Brandi Chastain, Aly Wagner, Danielle Slaton and Leslie Osborne, is backed by a team of investors that includes Sixth Street Partners (global investment firm worth about 60 billion) and interim president David Aufhauser.

Wrexham is submitting a team for TST, as well as visiting the United States with their full first team.

Reynolds and McElhenny.....an American owner (Reynolds is Canadian) who owns a European team and the fanbase isn't angry at this American owner?  That's not normal.

Being pretty and funny, . . . and not just buying a Premier League team that's guaranteed never to face the drop helps. If they move up to League Two they aren't guaranteed to jump right up the pyramid. They also probably focus more on the Canadian too.

I think it also helps that their ownership of the club doesn't come off as a vanity play or as a plaything for the wealthy like so many other foreign takeovers. They appear as if they're doing this for the experience and take seriously their stewardship of a community asset. The documentary also gives the appearance that, despite their fame, these aren't guys with bottomless wealth that can spend their way into contention.

Yes, there's that. And the fact they aren't just investing into the club, they are helping out other sports teams in the city as well as making needed repairs to the stadium that have been put off due to lack of funds. Whomever buys Manchester United or Liverpool will not do anything like that, even if they are from the area, much less if they are foreign owners.
