Whats the point? are there really that many Jhonsons and Pattersons on the team or is this merely for personal solicitation?

I thought that's why jersey numbers were created, for identification.

Example: Cincinnati Bengals - Johnson #85 = Chad; Johnson #32 = Rudi.

It's really not that difficult to figure out.

i know theres at least 5 Johnsons on the Bengals, 3 of them start on offense (Chad, Jeremi and Rudi), so putting the name on there may just be for identification instead of just an initial.

i also know that the Browns have both Andre Davis and Andra Davis, so they both put their full names on the back:

The Mike Patterson deal, i have no clue about.

Plus, at least it's their real names and not "He Hate Me."

Reminds me of when Isiah Thomas had his full name on his jersey. We all knew who Isiah Thomas was at the time so it's like "Why?", and to make it even worse they put his first name above his last.

while at alabama shaun alexander had SU.ALEXANDER on his jersey...there was a Shawn Alexander and a Stephen Alexander on the team...the other alexander had SW.ALEXANDER on the back of his jersey I believe.

I think it was Curtis Alexander, who was backed up by Shaun Alexander for at least one season. I think he wore "C. ALEXANDER".

Shouldn't the combination of last name, number, and position be enough to seperate who's who? When Steve Young and Bryant Young played for the Niners, they both only wore "Young" on the back of their jerseys.

A more current, although not in football, example is provided by the Detroit Pistons.

Very true. Kinda ironic, I recall that when BY came into the league he did have B. Young on the back, but Steve Young just had Young.

Another no inital set was Rickey and Dave Henderson in the A's dominant hay days in the later 80's early 90's.

Tank Johnson on the Bears does the same thing I believe. But tank isn't his real name, his name is Terry.

reminds me of the hatcher brothers on the dallas stars in the early 90's...

when they first traded tinordi for washington for kevin hatcher, derian was already on the team... kevin's jersey said K. HATCHER - 4 immediately, but derian's still just said HATCHER - 2...

then for a brief period of time, they had K. HATCHER and D. HATCHER... but then when they traded kevin to the pens for zubov, the D. stayed on derian's jersey for a while.

so we had hatcher and k. hatcher for a while, and then all we had was d. hatcher.
